From what I gathered on MANY forums for different Toyota models, Toyotas are more "miss" than "hit" with driving to program.

I wasted too much of my time on this...
(With how many wheels the truck can have programmed and this and that...
I hate running into "stupid" issues like that.)

SO.... I went for the CLONE option with blank sensors and a programmer so I can clone all five if I wanted (I only have 4 as one set is Winter and tires are cheap enough to replace), and hopefully the truck cannot tell which 4/5 are mounted.

Seems the Autel is proprietary which may cause me issues in the long run as you are stuck with their stuff, and in a pinch, from what IIIII understand, should I ever need a shop, they would need an Autel programmer.

(Which is why I don't use Apple at all and Sony items, besides headphones. Sony HAS relaxed with proprietary stuff, but has not stopped totally.
Apple, TO ME, is like buying a car you cannot possibly mod)

It is bothersome how Toyota went about this TPMS stuff.
Something so trivial, and yet can command a lot of research.

This is the question the dealer and Discount Tire couldn't answer for me. I now have a new matching rim and tire for my spare but without a TPMS sensor. I still plan to do 5 wheel rotations to maintain even tire sizes, I just will have a fifth tire without a sensor moving through different positions on the vehicle.

My understanding... (which could be completely wrong)

If you buy OEM Toyota TPMS, the 'learn' feature works. If you buy clones/aftermarket, you have to get them programmed with whatever handheld device.

That is sort of what I was gathering too, but for $100 more, (hopefully it works) I have 4 sensors and a clone tool on the way.
Then, I can make it pay for itself by doing others.

Two cars, and the tool paid for itself vs OEM Toyota sensors.
One Toyota sensor fails, and I am even better off in the long run if my little gamble works.

I am going off the $60 OEM online price vs $90 OEM *suggested* price.

Plus the fact it seems that there were no issues other than shops not updating their software which I can understand to a point.
