Exclamation RATS! source for the OEM Toyota soy wires? Want to run a rat-proofing test.

I just want the OEM wire.
Not equivalent. The actual wire they use.

I can't find anything without a sensor attached.

I want to test a few products to see if they degrade the wires, and then leave them leave them in a rat-infested area to see what happens.

I can coat the "protected" wires with peanut butter and such to see if they stop at the peanut butter or continue.

This will obviously take time, and I am more concerned with the degradation of the wires, and not sure if there is a way I can speed it up.

So basically, what I am thinking is say maybe 5 feet of wire.
Coat some sections fully, and let sit.
Others, pour some products into something like spray paint caps, and leave two ends sticking out, with the center section immersed in the products.

Can you picture that?

Of course this will be a long experiment.

My whole engine harness was replaced. I'd send that but not sure what Toyota does with them.

Don't wanna quote you. Reread your post.
(Not sure who lurks around these parts that may get offended)

I am looking to prevent what you went through with "off-the-shelf" products.

😁 You could mix some peppermint oil and cayenne powder in some fluid film. Seriously though, I've used fluid film on the jeep 6 yrs now with no degradation of the wiring or seals. Only has been 2 years for the Tundra. Petroleum based, depending on how much % based, will soften rubber and some insulation. Wd40 will swell alot of door seals. I know you don't care for FF, but its really not that bad to keep after.

It's not that I don't care for FF, it's just that it honestly sucks for rust in my applications. (Definition of insanity is repeating the same thing over and over expecting a different result)

But if it keeps rats away, I would have no problem recommending it for that application.
I am looking to make the wires unappealing to rats.

My FF view is that I do a lot of testing, and hate seeing people waste money on stuff that isn't all that great, when you can get much better for the same price.
The only part is, I am not a Youtuber and I don't do the pics thing when working on vehicles. It eats up too much time.
Hence why I won't use a product you basically must apply bi-annually.

Get me?

Let me clarify this a little better...
If products degrade the wires, it is useless to go on to leave them in a rat infested area coated with peanut butter.

You spray some stuff on that melts the sheathing, and basically you created your own "rat problem".

I have used quite a few.
The hands down best is the factory applied WaxOyl on my Land Rover and Dominion "No Drip".
It is a 99, and is my dedicated Winter vehicle... I run it year round, but it is my "go-to" snow vehicle as my '02 4Runner just cannot compete in my driveway.

I have used Fluid Film, and it just sucks.
Take one ride down the highway in heavy rain, at speed, and well, it sucks.
(Before I get critiqued by anyone for speeding in rain, you would need to know the facts behind it all)

On this '21, I used Cosmoline after testing products years ago.
She had like 250 miles on it when I did it.

Dominion "No Drip" works damn well, but rubs off on EVERYTHING when you are working. Clothes. Skin.

I have friends that bought into Ziebart and the repeat visits seem to work, but who has time to repeat the same thing over and over?
Some others use different services, like NH OIL SPRAY which seems to work, but they want annual inspections and reapplication.

So basically, I hunt stuff that can last a long while before I have to go tackle it again, if ever.
I have no issues with ANY of the products as much as it may seem like I do...
I just suggest products where you are not wasting time and money.
Say you get hurt or life takes a change and then life settles, then what?
(Granted you may have bigger things to worry about)

I just need this to last me for 16 years. I hate buying cars as they honestly are nothing but a waste of money. Sure I could have bought a Hyundai or Kia, but again, they are always in the shop especially if you want to keep the Hyundai warranty.
Toyota = Change fluids and battery and it starts every day. (With all my older stuff that is)

Cat & mouse...
Interesting research.

In addition, using dyes that light up when neurons are activated, the team saw neurons associated with VNOs turn on in response to the scents.

These mice were inbred in labs for hundreds of generations, none of them having ever seen a predator, Stowers notes. “This isn’t the mouse learning to recognize these cues,” she says, “he’s born with the ability to detect them.”

The next task was narrowing down exactly which predator scent compound was terrifying the mice. The team separated the components of the whole predator scent and introduced them to mice on cotton balls. Only one—a class of proteins found in urine and other secretions known as Mups, for major urinary proteins—elicited the same fear response as the whole predator scent in the mice. Most terrestrial vertebrates excrete Mups, and they are thought to play a role in intraspecies communication.

Alright...
I have some WoolWax on order , and some Cosmoline from the last application.
I can swing somewhere and grab Fluid Film, but WoolWax is a more concentrated/thicker version.

I guess I will swing by a junkyard and see what I can grab as far as soywire.
But the people that work them are a-holes in NY/NJ and I don't know of any where I can go on my own and clip wires. These are the type where you tell them and they search to see, and bring whatever to you if they have it in stock

I can start the rat test on the 25th.
I wish I had a way to record/stream it without spending on equipment to do so.

The degradation test will, as I said, take a long time unless anyone can think of a way to speed it up.
Making metal rust is easy with some peroxide, vinegar and salt.

Where the hell in NJ do you live where you have rats?
I would suggest you move to a better part of town.
