first tow with the procharger

I finally put the towing capacity of the 4runner to work this weekend and brought home my new toy, a SBC swapped 1970 FJ40 on 35s. I kept it in D4 the entire time and ran up and down some pretty steep grades. Transmission never got over 200, torque converter never got over 220. gas mileage dropped to 12 but I had no issues pulling.
While I won't say I didn't notice the trailer, the super charger and 4.56s made getting to highway speeds pretty darn effortless.
Stopping on the other hand was a bit more exciting

Actually, 12 MPG towing with that load doesn't seem too bad; you mentioned some long hills but was most of the trip on level ground? Up here in the mountains, I bet it would be closer to 9 MPG at best. But still, impressive!

I am toying with the idea of a supercharger too along with 4.56s but also a brake upgrade for when I get another 4R. I have been preparing myself as the cost the new 4R (TRD ORP Prem or TRD PRO) with those mods along with all of the other off-road mods I want (and use) with turn into it a +$70K truck. Making a will as I am sure my wife will me.

Congrats on the FJ! A good friend of mine just restored his 1970 after years of total reconstruction and V8 engine/tranny swap plus lift, custom paint, and so on. Amazing machine. Yours looks like a great build too. Have fun!

Thanks! the drive was around southern and eastern missouri, so not mountains but lots and lots of hills and slow corners dropping from 60mph to 35mph and then ramping back up. I was honestly really impressed, but yeah a brake controller in the very least and trailer brakes would be a requirement.
If you are considering supercharging, I would not go with a new rig. I don't know if the ECUs on anything newer than a 2019 has been cracked so your options for an SC just might not exist. Picking up a 2019 or older, you have magnuson, procharger and URD and probably someone else that I've forgotten.

Whippersnapper nailed it. you can get more out of it but it voids the warranty .
