Not everyone can be pleased, or satisfied.
I walked many roads to get where I am and learned a lot along the way.
Hell, I am studying criminal psychology now, for fun. I will never use/apply it or make a cent from it. But I like to know "stuff"

I'd give him some credit if he'd sign his real name and I can see whats up with the what-what.

I occasionally read BITOG, but isn’t it just another forum, with lots of amateur opinions? Do any oil industry experts actually participate and clear up the controversies and answer questions?
If anyone has actual independent comparative destructive test data, not just chemistry analyses of ingredients like PQIA does or Blackstone UOA, I’d like to see it. Everyone has opinions and testimonials, but show me the data.

540 RAT - Tech Facts, NOT Myths

540rat is completely clueless about Tribology. His 'testing' methods have been proven to be pointless.
If you really want to know about Tribology, you can get your feet wet on A Review of Mineral and Synthetic Base Oils - Bob is the Oil Guy.
There are some ACTUAL knowledgeable people there. Not misguided individuals spreading misinformation, like 540Rat.
Of course there are some clueless people in Bitog, too. But if you ask a question, you'll usually get a knowledgeable reply.
I will also add that some Amsoil products ARE good. The best? Well, in the extreme racing vehicles I've worked or consulted on for almost 19 years, we don't use any Amsoil products.

Thanks for that info. Can you refer me to any documentation of motor oil and gear oil ranking based on industry standard tests? All I’ve ever found was Rat with his one data point extreme pressure test, and Amsoil’s testing, which some people discount due to perceived conflict of interest or of its marketing model.

Ranking based on what parameters? I don't have time to go searching. My best advice would be to join Bitog, and ask your question there.
Listen to qualified individuals such as "Molakule".

Well aware many built motors run well North of $40k.
I am going for the street side of things.

Well, this thread has gotten me reinterested in using Amsoil 75W90 Servere Gear, so I ordered and already received 6 qts! Will be doing front and rear diffs in spring.
I read that "Amsoil inspired" ASTM report again and that did it. It's only 2-2.5 times more $$ than Valvoline!

Yes. And too many acronyms. That has always been a bit of a red flag for me.

Not that I have seen.

I agree.
BITOG has a lot of info, but much of it is restated opinion, and people malpracticing engineering, chemistry, and more. What info there is, is of what real use to us? Group III/IV/V PAO ester blah blah blah. What does that really mean to us and our 4Runners? Who here (or there) has the education and experience and the data to show any meaningful difference in performance and protection? Nobody I have seen. Those people work at Exxon, Toyota, elsewhere, and are not talking. I always wonder if Amsoil, Royal Purple etc can afford the engineers needed to compete with the big boys. Maybe, but I wonder.
What little they do say, like the xfer case lube paper linked on the tacoma forum, reveals minimal information. That's not an accident.
I bet the truth about lube oils is a lot less interesting than many people think, and much of the difference we see between them is market-driven.
I do know that I used to sell car parts, and many people have something of a fanatical, nearly superstitious, regard for brands, not really based on much fact, if any. "My old man always used Pennzoil and always got 500,000 mi out of his engines." A somewhat religious following.
