PSA: Safety campaign R75

Hey there just wondering if you guys have done this campaign and if not maybe go to your dealership to get it done. ... I didn’t even know it was a thing but apparently it is.. went into dealership today to visit friends and old co workers.. decided to get my prop shaft greased up and a few other things like diff fluids and an engine shampoo due to a dirty trail day!! Lol!!! Anyways while I was there my service advisor told me there was a recall / safety campaign on my 2013 4runner for passenger side air bag..

“ Takata, an automotive parts company based in Japan, began recalling faulty inflators in 2013 and filed bankruptcy in 2017, as the recall has impacted approximately 37 million vehicles worldwide. Toyota’s current Takata recall is a part of the nation-wide replacement of faulted inflators. Canadian automotive manufacturers, Ford and Honda, have already issued recalls for the affected airbags.

Defected Takata inflators are at risk of exploding and spraying remnants of sharp metal with heavy force onto drivers and passengers. The chemical ammonium nitrate is used to inflate the airbags; however, the chemical is known to deteriorate over time due to changes in the weather. Affected vehicles are more likely to be impacted with an explosion if the inflator is in an area with high heat and humidity.

AUnder Toyota’s current recall, Vehicles recalled for defective driver-side airbag inflators include 2004-2005 Toyota RAV4. Vehicles with affected passenger side airbag inflators include:

2003-2013 Toyota Corolla,
2003-2014 Toyota Matrix,
2003-2006 Toyota Tundra,
2002-2007 Toyota Sequoia,
2002-2010 Lexus SC430,
2006-2011 Toyota Yaris Hatchback,
2007-2012 Toyota Yaris Sedan,
2010-2016 Toyota 4Runner,
2011-2014 Toyota Sienna,
2010-2015 Scion xB,
2006-2013 Lexus IS250/350,
2010-2015 Lexus IS250C/350C,
2008-2014 Lexus IS-F,
2007-2012 Lexus ES350,
2012 Lexus LFA,
2010-2017 Lexus GX460.

You should have received a recall notice in the mail from Toyota Canada (if you have registered your 4Runner with them as the current owner).

I received my Safety Recall Campaign notice from Toyota Canada back in February 2019. I had the airbag replaced in July 2019.

I would make sure that you register your 4Runner with Toyota Canada so that you will be advised if there are any future safety recalls.

From the Toyota Canada website;

For the most up-to-date Safety Recall information on Toyota vehicles, Canadian customers should check their vehicle’s status by visiting toyota.ca/recall and entering the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

As of late February 2019, Toyota Canada had a remedy available for all affected vehicles under the current recall. The remedy will consist of the replacement of the airbag inflator or the airbag assembly, depending on the vehicle model.

All known owners of the involved vehicles are notified by first class mail when a remedy is available for their vehicle.

For any additional questions, or to ensure that Toyota Canada has their current mailing information, customers are encouraged to contact the Toyota Customer Interaction Centre at Dial and Call1 888 869-6828.

To ensure that the proper customer notifications can be provided to the correct owners, Toyota Canada encourages customers to verify that all of their personal information is up to date.
