A) because of the weight of the unit itself
B) because of increased moment because the hitch ball is further out.

On other "off the shelf" tire carriers there is a 2" receiver but it doesn't look stout. It looks like it's more for other "hitch mount" accessories.
Ok, I was wonder about the weld and mounting to the OEM hitch location.
But thinking , you could more than likely use this to reach into the OEM hitch receiver.

Ah. OK. I see the disconnect here...

I have this inserted into the hitch.

The tabs I welded on are just to keep it from wobbling around. Other designs use a wedge bolt type thing.

Visible in this picture:

I'm still utilizing the factory 5/8 hitch pin (replaced with a bolt so it doesn't rattle) in conjunction with the hitch extender. I actually have another clamping bolt on the inside of the hitch but didn't have any photos and didn't feel like trying to explain in the post.

I came to the conclusion a while ago that there are people in this world who are just much more talented than I ever will be, and this reinforces that conclusion.

Well done sir. That thing is crazy nice.

Thanks. To me this seems like a hack project. I build high-end vintage motorcycles as a real hobby. Ok, maybe they're not ALL high end but some of them are and they all took way more care than this thing.

I really liken the placement of the tire off to the right side; are you thinking about fabricating and selling these?

3) I keep thinking about that. I don't think there is any practical way for me to mass produce these. I'd have to charge more than anyone would pay, probably.
Ah man. Well if you consider selling it in parts/pieces and let the end user do the welding and powdercoating, I'd be in. This setup to too damn nice.

I'm with ^^^. I'd totally buy a peices-parts kit and have a buddy weld it all up and PC it.

Would be down for this kit too.. like others have suggested to keep
Costs down you can sell it in pieces , with instructions possibly amd leave you to end buyer to throw it all together etc.

You have talent a d skill. The esthetic, design and creativity on the bikes is fresh and build quality a d skill is top tier. I know people who can weld but design and shit like making bushings from scratch are next level. Cheers.
