I made my own hitch mount spare tire carrier.

i'm also interested in a centered one, pending how will it clear my gobi ladder. i would like to see something similar to detours of maine. Also the tire on the dom seems to be higher ?

@Saker wants a centered one @CajunMikeR want's an offset one

I’d be interested if there’s any spots remaining. I’m a center mounted on, pending if it would work with a ladder as well. Can you pm me the details?

Thanks

Let me suggest that you pm @ctnewman so you can ask questions.
Or email him at ctnewman at gmail

He is in the process of working on them as I type this, so time is important.
He may have already cut the tubes

Hey guys,

The center mounted ones will NOT clear a ladder. That is the reason for the offset. When I designed this my main intention was to have a close fitting design where the tire hugged the rear hatch, because all the ones on the market stuck out so far.

See pics below for reference of fitment with gobi ladder. I suppose that you could put spacers behind the wheel... but then what's the point of the tight fitting design.

Also, I made the executive decision and decided to make 3 offset and two centered. One of each is spoken for.

Additionally, here is some more information that i was asked in a PM but thought group knowledge would be helpful:

1) the camera mounts on an armored extension that peeks through the wheel centerbore.

2) higher license plate sits in different places depending on whether or not is is offset or centered:

you can see there there are two plate mounts. The upper mount is for the centered setup, the lower mount is for the offset. Only one plate mount will be on there, though.

3) the offset is to the right, not out away from the vehicle. The wheel on the offset version is shifted 8" off center to the right. It should clear your gobi ladder assuming it's installed in the factory specified spot. I have seen some installed more centered. the picture below shows the offset version. For reference the one on my truck is offset 10" to the right and the gobi ladder is installed in the factory specified position.

I've toyed with the idea of making my own using this receiver for better departure angle and a pre-built spindle.
It would be quite similar looking to yours.

Looks amazing!!

I wonder how long the sleeve has to be to support a bike carrier or rack thing?

If that hitch receiver protruded past the bumper just enough for your swing arm stock that thing would be the best hitch swing on the market!

Correct. It could absolutely be shorter, but how much shorter depends on what loads you're adding.

Would love to get in on this, just can't justify it at the moment.

For the center option, what will be the offset ? I’m just trying to decide either center or to the right :-)

The center option is zero offset.

so my conceren is the distance from the ladder to the back of the tire carrier. from ultraswing it's 4". i'm hoping this one (center option) has an offset of less then 3". i think 1" is good

this will determine if i choose center of offset carrier.

Absolutely doable. Easier and better if you're willing to cut up your bumper for access. If you're trying to go around the bumper, you're not going to gain much, as you will still wind up having just as much steel and not a significant improvement in the way it attaches.
