Morimoto 2Stroke 3.0 9005/H10:High/DRL bulbs.

Anyone running these in the High beam/DRL locations?

Thought I did my homework here, but once plugged in they're on full blast no matter what I have the headlights set to.

Am I an idiot (quite possible) or am I missing something simple in regards to hooking these up? I mean... it's a single plug... not exactly a complicated install routine here... Emailed the vendor and Morimoto to see if I failed at my homework, but figured I'd ask here as well.

Ugh... the more I'm looking into this, the more I'm starting to think I paid too much attention to the manufacturer's marketing material and not enough to the details of the application regarding the 4Runner itself.

Translated: I'm likely an idiot.

Unless you have a 2021, I believe you’re putting these LED bulbs in halogen housing which isn’t a good idea. If you like Marimoto just put out the dough for the XB LED lights with housing. I think it looks totally awesome on the 4Runner.

You need a resistor to lower the amp draw. Look up the 2.0's on some vendor sites you should see the option to add the dongle thing.

The 3.0s should work. I confirmed with them it has drl function. the only other ones other than the 3.0s were the xenon depot leds.

Has anyone installed and running them in the low beam? I had difficulty getting the passenger side in properly.

Yea, the problem is that it seems 'DRL function' to most suppliers just means that it will come on as a DRL, not necessarily be the right brightness. The 4Runner uses PWM to dim the bulbs, not just dropping the voltage. So they come on, full blast, and pulse/flicker at the same time.

You can fix the flicker, but it seems only Xenon Depot makes a driver that can understand the dimming method and actually have the DRLs be 20% output. I was prepared for the flicker and had the right modules to fix that, but theres zero difference between DRL and Brights with regard to the light output of the bulbs.

Yea, I have the 2.0's as low beams, if you replace the O-ring with the OEM style O-ring, they go in just like the stock bulbs. You can get them in with the ones that come on them, but it's really hard if not impossible for some folks.

Yup, tried that and it does go into the socket better however my issue is adjusting the base so the diode is angled at 3&9. The base is a completely different shape then the 2.0’s.

Sigh... response from the vendor...

"Thanks for reaching out!
Unfortunately they will not dim to lower output for the DRL, we have seen that across many different style LED's on these applications. There would not be a way to get it off the full intensity, the only bulb we've seen work on occasion and even still have some issues is the Xenon depot bulbs.
Toyota PWM systems for the DRL don't really work all too well with aftermarket bulbs and dimming for the lower output."
