MT Runner will become famous soon enough
Greetings from the new guy

Well not really all that new. I’ve been on the 4th gen side of things for a few years now.

I still have my 4th gen, that’s kind of the main rig, the one I’ll continue to really take out and about the most.

But we just took the plunge into the 5th gen world today for my wife’s car. Had to replace the old Legacy 3.0R. Fun car, just didn’t fit the new car seat too well, so it was time to move on.

New one is a 2015 SR5 Premium with 64k. We were basically on the lookout for an SR5 Premium or a Trail/TRD off-road premium. Stayed away from the cloth seats and the Limited trim altogether.
If I was replacing my rig, it would have been a Trail or TRD for sure, but for the second 4Runner we didn’t really NEED the off-road goodies.

Yes, I know how to use the search function and yes I get as annoyed as anyone when I see the same ol “how much lift do I need for 33’s” questions.
I do have a bit to learn about the 5th gens, so I’ll be searching a lot and I’m sure have the occasional question.

I won’t be doing a ton, but I do have a few plans:

-1st is ceramic tint all the way around. Will do that in the first couple weeks.

-already ordered the black out kit for the emblems. I hate chrome.

- Sound deadening. I did quite a bit in my 4th gen and have really liked the results. Something satisfying about that solid clunk when you close the door. So I plan on basically doing the same with this one.

- new wheels/tires. This one actually has the limited’s 20’s on it. Really doesn’t look bad, just not really my style. Probably either go TRD Pro or just standard TRD off-road wheels.
I’m thinking 255/75/17’s most likely for the tires. I’ve had them on my 4th gen and I’ve liked that size.
I would imagine those fit just fine, maybe some small fender liner manipulation might be needed.

-Replace the factory infotainment system. I know the T8 system is out there, briefly read about that. I’ll just have to look more into it to see what other options are out there for a newer/bigger screen/CarPlay capable system.

-simple 5100 setup to level it out/minor lift. Not going to get too crazy on this, or I might be sleeping on the couch for awhile.

-New headlights of some kind. I know there are a few options out there. Just have to start looking around to see what everyone is liking the best and would recommend.

-Replace fog lights with the SS2 squadron lights (I think that’s what I’ve seen, again, I’ll research more on this)

-Look into removal of 3rd row. I know they fold down, but I would imagine people have taken them out altogether? We didn’t think this one had them until we showed up and was checking everything out on our walk around. Have no intention of ever using them, so I wouldn’t mind just getting them out of there entirely. Will at least be removing the seatbelts in the far back. Just something for our dogs to get tangled in.

-TRD Pro grill. Not a top priority, but I do like the look, so we’ll see.

I’m sure I’ll think of more, well I know I will. Just have to walk a fine line of doing a few things that the wife likes and not going overboard.

If anyone has any tips/tricks with the 5th gen or any recommendations outside of what I’ve listed. I’m all ears.

Meanwhile I’ll just be here scrolling through stuff and researching things and wasting hours on here, much like I have in the 4th gen section for years.

Welcome.

Recommendations for modifying your 5th Gen will depend on what you plan on doing with it. If your 4th Gen will be your main trail toy then you may not want to do all that much beyond exterior aesthetics on your 5th Gen?

Yea, that’s going to be about the extent of it. Mostly some stuff for looks and functionality for it being a daily driver (ceramic tinting, sound deadening, new infotainment, etc).

It will see some forest service roads for sure. It won’t be purely a pavement princess, it just won’t be getting driven too hard either.

Might go with some skids at some point for that extra protection, I’ve loved my RCI on the 4th gen.

I’ll have a list a mile long before I know it.

Mainly just stopping in to say hi, I’ll be browsing these let’s now too.
