Is this the 1st oil change for your T4R? If it is, looks for broken/stripped skid plate bolts, oil spills near around the oil fill cap and valve cover, and oil underneath your engine? Toyota dealer oil changes usually result in one or all of these things.

To answer your question with zero snark, no.

Until recently I farmed out fluid changes to the dealership and after the oil change I would always make sure they didn’t overfill it or underfill, without fail they would overfill it.

Brand new synthetic oil from the Toyota dealership is notoriously invisible and you can barely see it on the dipstick. Like clear.

Towards the end of the oil‘s life, you can very easily see it on the dipstick.

So the answer is: no, that is not fresh oil. That is absolutely not fresh oil.

That is oil somewhere 1/2 to 2/3 into its life.

They didn’t change your oil. They lied to you.

There is a slim possibility they didn’t change the oil filter and there is enough oil inside the filter canister to taint your oil… But usually people do both, not one or the other. If it is a brand new car, you should see markings on the oil canister if they accessed it.

i've been replacing my oil every 10000 miles for 15 years now and i can tell the oil wasn't changed.

or maybe they did but did not replace the filter.

when i change my oil, after the oil change, i could not even see what level the oil was. in addition to that, i drain the oil for 1 hour so all remaining oil could drain out.

in a quick change oil change, what they do is remove the oil, once it's no longer draining fast, they seal it back up and a lot of oil is still in the engine.

Even if they didn’t change the oil and just topped it off, OP says he has less than 5K miles his rig. That’s pretty dark for having less than 5K miles total. I’ve seen oil drained from my rig with about 10K miles that’s lighter than the oil in the picture in the first post.

OP, any updates from the dealer? Did you have them change out the oil in front of you?

Thanks for the reply. I am thinking that may have been the case, but I can't be sure. I think they just pulled the drain plug for "long enough" and refilled. Appreciate the feedback.

They changed the oil again. Drove around the block and showed me the oil from the dipstick and it wasn't clear. Who knows if he was just covering his back, but he did go further than expected to make me happy about the situation.

This is from the 2016-2019 Toyota Repair Manual.

Assuming there is no oil consumption between oil change intervals, this says there should be 1.5 quarts of old oil remaining in the engine if you drain the oil without changing the oil filter. If you drain the oil and replace the oil filter, there should be 0.9 quarts of old oil remaining in the engine. If true, seems kind of pointless to let it drain until every last drop comes out.
