Nor'Easter/Blizzard vs 4Runner w/ Continental VikingContact 7's = what shovel

'21 Limited + VikingContact 7's =

I have to measure the spot on the bumper, but multiple untouched/unplowed areas I had to drive through were no problem.

I picked up some 17' TRD wheels and Continental VikingContact 7's about 3 weeks ago, and had some TMPS issues, So I was going to sell them here, or return them if people flaked out. (It IS useful for me as the PSI is displayed on cluster)
Then came word of the storm approaching.
I had the tires mounted on the wheels this past Saturday and slapped on the 4R.

ANYWHO, I also have an '02 4R that I run Blizzaks on in the Winter, and the '21 hands down with the Continentals is much better in snow.
Usually on the '02 Limited, the center diff in engaged and in 4L to get moving in the deep stuff and rocking at times.
Left the '02 in 4H and was forced to go through untouched/unplowed snow by a wrong way driver in a car and no issues.

All regrets in buying the '21 are now gone.

And I will no longer be buying Blizzaks for snow.
Just hoping Continental doesn't stop this design soon.

(I have the VikingContacts on two other vehicles, so I actually stopped buying Blizzaks about 2-3 years ago, And I used to even run Nokians and other dedicated Winter brands)

My truck did fine with the stock Bridgestone’s that came with it in this weeks snowstorm. I have used Continental winter tires for years on a RWD sedan and had very good results. One of the reasons I bought a 4WD vehicle is so I would not need to switch tires 2x a year.

Mine did great with the Falkens. I think they are really capable vehicles and in at least some circumstances they are fine no matter what tire is on them.

My 2016 limited with the stock 20's absolutely sucks .. sliding all over road and through stop signs actually dangerous imo ... My vue fwd is like 200 times better

Put a set of Cooper snows on it and it's like it has magnets to the road

The OEM tires do suck for snow.

I wonder what dedicated Winter tires would be like on the Land Rover I have which was my dedicated snow ride.
With Goodyear Triple Treads (discontinued) on 'er, there just was never a need for snow tires.
If it was bad, I just drove up the driveway in reverse.

I love the Viking but they were designed for European cars on European roads not that they would not pull you through most snowy roads but I tend to trust Provence over the latest flavor my last set of Blizzaks on my Jeep GC lasted years of winter abuse and still looked good when I sold the truck it’s the reason I bought a set on my 4Runner and it’s a blast to slice through snow

Nokians are in that category then.

And the Mexico-made Bridgestones (Limited/Nightshade) would be for Japanese vehicles on Mexican road roads?

110 MPH in the snow/ice!

I switch back and forth between BStone Potenzas, Conti Extreme Contact and Sumitomo HZR's on my XRunner...
Hard really to say which I like best, but the Sumitomos last the longest.

If I pull onto wet grass though, I am stuck with any of those three...
(I know the reason why)

To me, anywhere in the world,
An asphalt road is an asphalt road. (NY/NJ roads = 3rd world) (I am aware composition of aggregate changes)
A NA gas engine is a NA gas engine.
A tire is a tire.

They are all designed to function and technology hasn't really changed MUCH in the grand scheme of things.

True, snow is different (unlike rain which is measured by intensity), but this storm was a powdery one.
Sometimes it is heavy/wet snow. Other times it is a mix and with sleet/hail mixed in.

I've been through more sets of dedicated Winter tires than I care to count.
I like trying new stuff/designs/models as well and if I don't like it, I sell it cheap.

Do some research tire rack has as a direct competition of the Viking is Bridgestone ws90 as a passenger tire and a truck tire comparison doesn’t include the viking
Gear patrol website states it’s a passenger car winter tire choice is Viking and truck tire choice is blizzak

I disagree all tires are not black and round only
they have so much difference in composition and even between countries
travel on any road in Germany everywhere else sucks by comparison completely they have road scientists for every road proposed including pothole repair

I agree not all tires are black and round. Difference in compunds, heat dissapation, obviously tread, etc. It's why cheap tires are cheap and premium tires are premium. But, I feel like the country/roads they were designed for is somewhat of a non-issue when it comes to those things for the normal driver. Conti also makes all season, performance, etc. tires that you could say are designed for Euro vehicles that work very well here. Sounds like analysis paralysis to me, but to each his own.

Love my falkens atw3. Been great in just about all weather. I have lived from Ohio, California, and Utah and done several cross country with them.
