Question Yakima Skyrise on Front Runner Rack?

Has anyone on here mounted a Yakima Skyrise rooftop tent to their Front Runner rack? I picked up a smoking deal on one this weekend at an REI garage sale only to learn that the clamps on the tent don't open wide enough to grab the crossbars on my Front Runner rack. Of course the guys at REI said to buy Yakima feet and crossbars to mount to my Front Runner. I have no interest in adding another 3"-5" of total height to the setup, or spending the extra couple hundred bucks for that matter.

My initial though is to buy the Tepui or CVT mounting rails and hardware kit to swap out the feet on the tent (see image below) and then used the Front Runner kit to mount it to the roof. Has anyone mounted this tent to their Front Runner rack? If so, please tell me which method you went with and how it worked out. I'd just like to get another opinion before I go throwing more money at it and chasing my tail.

I think I saw someone on youtube remove Yakima's mounting feet/clamps altogether and bought the standard aluminum U-channels from one of the tent brands (GoFSR, CVT, or Tepui) and bolted it to the base of the Yakima Skyrise. That's what I would do.

I find myself in the exact same situation. What did you end up doing? Any photos?

Thanks,

Yakima Skyrise HD on Front Runner Slimline II Rack

I, too, stumbled across a heavily discounted (and slightly damaged) Yakima Skyrise 2 HD tent from my local REI.

Initially, I cut and filed the Yakima mounts to fit the Slimline II cross bars, but the tent rode too high above the Frontrunner rack with the stock mounts.

I came across this thread, did more research, and ordered 1) Tepui Ayer 2 48" Spare Mounting track 2) Wheel Every Weekend Slimline II security mounts (made in the USA, by a vet!). Yakima customer support stated that I should not drill different mounting holes, so I drilled the Tepui track to align with the pre-drilled Yakima mount points. Pretty easy peasy. Case closed.
