HID bulb turned pink, replace or go LED?

My 6 y/o HID set on my 2014 Trail Edition appears to be on it's way out. My passenger headlight has suddently turned pink and at times flickers to bright white like it should. So, looks like my bulbs are going. I got the kit from XexonDepot. Is it worth it to replace the bulbs since everything else seems to be working, or should I go LED? If going with LED, any recommendations for the low beams? I was unsure how long ballasts last but so far so good. Thoughts? Are there any LED that are plug and play with orignal wiring?

Easy answer.
Replace both of your HID Bulbs.
LED’s in the side firing halogen projectors will not give you very good output.
Although they will look bright if you stand in front of them, they will not perform as your current HID’s do.
There have been numerous write ups on this subject on the forums.
Hope this helps.

This HID vs LED replacement thing has been beat to death.

This situation is really really simple. There is NO LED replacement bulb that will put out more light through a projector than a HID bulb. LED replacement bulbs are getting better and better, i will agree with that. HID bulbs were designed to be used with a projector housing. Aftermarket LED replacement bulbs are not. NO matter what LED manufacturer tells you, its all hype.

Ask anyone that has had LED bulbs in their 5th gen low beams and then switched to HID about the light output.

Another thing is the kelvin/ color. The lower the kelvin, to a point, the more light output of the HID bulbs. 4300-5000 Kelvin is going to provide more output than 8000 K. Plus the 8000K bulbs work terrible in rain and snow.

Call Morimoto and ask them about LED vs HID in a factory projector housing if you don't believe me. They sell both. Get their opinion.

H11 Morimoto Elite HID Systems | H11 HID Headlights

My 2 cents, if it matters.

LEDs are light-emitting diodes that convert electrical energy directly into light energy, and xenon lamps are high-voltage electricity emitted through the discharge of xenon gas in the bulb.

HIDs emit a lot of heat and a large portion of their emissions fall in both the IR and UV spectrum.
Therefore, LED will be more energy-saving and environmentally friendly and have a longer lifespan than HID.

If you are worried about the efficacy of LED bulbs, you can first try using LED bulbs at the license plate lights or interior lights first.
In addition, the low beam bulb model that fits the 2014 4Runner is the H11 model bulb.

Sorry, but that's definitely not an apples to apples comparison. Short distance / foreground lighting is important in the two applications you mention. It's one of the least important things you need in a good headlight bulb.

I've been through 2 complete Morimoto HID kids. For me the light either turns green, or pink, and starts to flicker. Usually 1.5 years for me. In the 7 years of using them, just replacing the bulbs I find that it delays something else failing. Either the ignitor or the ballast will then fail. I'm currently on an older set of Xenon Depot kit with the Phillips bulbs before The retrofit source bought them. I'm on year 2 for them, and they seem to be lasting longer than the Morimoto stuff. But I also have 2 brand new Toyota OEM LED headlights ready to drop in when something fails in the Xenon Depot kit.

Yes, you are absolutely right.
The lumen value of the headlight bulb, the color temperature and whether the light is diffused and other indicators are very important. That's why we have a 30-day no-hassle return and refund policy. This is also a standard service that every business needs to provide. So that customers are not satisfied with the installation of the product and want to return or replace.

Thank you very much for bringing that up. I am eager to communicate with you more!
