Congrats.

Any issues?

I'll likely approach 2k miles in the next few months. I doubt I'll live long enough to get to 250k...

Good to know. Thanks for sharing. Do you diy the maintenance on the truck or have it done? Also any relatively minor or major issues if any?

I do all the maintenance. Shocks, brake rotors and pads been the only major items. Learned that you must road force balance the tires from new or you will get the steering wheel shakes at 60 mph. Could have been the reason for replacing rotors I thought were warped. Use all non-OEM fluids. Oil change every 10K. Changed the differential and transfer case fluids twice now. Done one transmission flush and another is coming up.

How much did you use the four-wheel-drive?

Because my CV axles were trashed by 90,000 miles.

Mileage update. My 2010 limited just turned 255,000 miles. So far four tires, two batteries, a windshield, set of brake pads, one wheel bearing and normal oil changes and that’s it. I’m hoping at least to get 300,000 out of it. (Although I probably jinxed myself by bragging.…)
In fairness, I bought the truck with 138,000 miles on it, so that 255,000 is not all me. But according to the dealers records, the previous owner had only done standard maintenance when he got rid of it.

We/she uses 4WD all the time. Go off-road all the time and she will often go alone when doing her geocaching. I know because she’s called me for help when she’s popped a tire. Got her an inflator, cordless impact wrench, need to get her an electric jack. Need a 5th snowflake wheel for a spare as the steel wheels are too heavy for her.

Did you tear the boots on the CV axles?

I’ve done CV axles and wheels bearings on my ‘99 K2500 Suburban Diesel 4WD and it wasn’t hard. Even did boot replacement and repacked the grease. Aftermarket CV axles come with boots that last just a couple years. Need to use thermoplastic boots as opposed to the neoprene.

Forgot about 2 windshields. The snow plows on the highway will get you. Also two batteries. It’s all just regular maintenance stuff.

Truck looks great in the photo. Shape of front high/low beam lights and teardrop down to running lights give a timeless retro look.

What is mfg brand for the replacement SR5 skid plate? Looks nice.

That’s a TRD skid plate. She bent the stamped steel OEM model while playing off-road and it made oil changes a PITA. So happy B’day April! Now she proudly shows off her skid plate as if it were a Diamond ring (she’s got one of them too).

April's got her 4Runner, fancy skid plate and one pretty diamond ring. Makes a great Country song lyric.

Boots were fine, the innards were shredded on the driver’s side and it was rumbling and grumbling.

I decided to replace both of them, the passenger side didn’t look that bad but since I had the whole truck apart…

Many thanks for the heads up. I would not complain if my CVs last 90k, given how I use them.

I am thinking of picking up a 40$ 460 CV from a junk yard to have a trail spare. Rear drive shafts can be found for 75$ from a 4x4 SR5. I don't use my right foot much in rocks, but just in case. Tie rods are hard to get from a yard, btw.

The OEM takes a 35mm on a 5th gen, right?

That's totally awesome. Hopefully, my 4R and I will make it there one day....
