Question What's acting different when in drive...?

So when I'm in park there's no squeal. But when I put in drive something in the engine is squealing. I tested it with holding the break pedal as well:

Park, brake - no squeal
Park, no brake - no squeal
Park, rev up engine - no squeal
Drive, brake - squeal
Drive, no brake - squeal

Is there a certain belt that is moving when in drive and not moving when in park? My initial thought was a belt. Does something in the suspension system cause this typically?

Clearly there's something different going on when in drive and when in park.

Almost 20K miles.

In drive you now have a little more load on the engine. I'd look at the easy stuff first - old belt, idler pulleys, etc.

Probably the serpentine belt. Try belt conditioner on it to see if it goes away. You still may need to replace the belt.

With only 20K miles I assume your under warranty? I'd take it to the dealer and let them figure it out

Strange that you have a squeal at 20k. Def bring it to the dealer.

When you're in drive and foot on the brake your RPMs drop a bit with the transmission engaged, so could be the belt or tensioner that has prematurely worn out.

Does it increase with RPM and disappear? Or continue?

Is it definitely coming from the engine?

My other thought: is your Defroster on? Could be AC pulley.

Could also be drivetrain-related. Been in 4wd recently? Not fully disengaged?

Does the noise occur in reverse as well? Sounds like maybe a transmission pump making noise?? Common denominator is while in gear, in my experience a belt noise is more consistent with load on the drive belt (ie. turning A/C on) or change in RPM, I guess if a pulley is dragging that slight drop in RPM when in gear could make a difference?

Not sure about your squeal but the 5th gens have a common brake squeal issue.

So went in for service today. All the pulleys, belts looked good. Brakes were good as well. They did take a video and have to send it into Toyota because I made a complaint and it's still under warranty. I would imagine that's a good thing right? Because I told them something is wrong, they can't find anything wrong. The squeal is fairly apparent and it was even louder today when I started up the 4runner, temp around 35 F or so.

Anything else I can check?
