We are planning a 1500 mile trip.
So, we are starting down here on the Gulf in AL and heading to Gaitlinburg and then Savannah and then down to St Augustine and back home. We are already looking at stopping at some of the natural springs in FL on the home stretch. We are also planning on driving through the Smokey's again and maybe to Cherokee. but is there anything worth seeing on the way from AL to TN and from TN to Savannah? is there anything good to do or see. We will be in TN from a Friday to a tuesday.

if you're into beer, I'd suggest hitting up Sierra Nevada on your way through Asheville. Its just off I-26 right behind the airport. Also, Congaree National Park is off I-26 as well. My wife and I have a goal to visit as many NP's as we can but havent been to that one yet so I dont know if its worth it. If you go, let me know haha

Thanks, we try to hit a NP every year. I found this and I know it's expensive but I like the thought and didn't want to spent a ton of time making one.

I'll give a thumbs up for Sierra Nevada at Chico (CA) - used to work down the street from them years ago. Lived in Magalia at the time which is now a burned out wasteland..

Deals gap and the dragon, not the same in a station wagon, but still scenic. There's a great resort and spa in Ashville, don't recall the name at the moment, but it was very relaxing and that's coming from a guy that doesn't know what the word relaxing means. "The Grove Park Inn" Ashville NC. May be a bit out of your way, depending on route.

If you are not going to Asheville but close to Highlands NC, its nice and quiet. Nice places to stay, hiking ect, with that small Hallmark town feel haha!

I wold skip Gatlinburg completely and go to Ellijay, Blue Ridge, Helen and Dahlonega Ga. You will have more to see and do with a lot less people to put up with. Helen is a made to look like a English village and Dahlonega is where some of Hallmark Christmas movies are filmed. Tons and tons of trails to ride also

Are you a gun nut?
On the way back from Florida a week ago, I stopped at Dixie Gun Works in Union City, TN.
1412 W Reelfoot Ave, Union City, TN 38261
It's the Black Powder Shooter's Mecca. Neat shop loaded with original Percussion and Flintlock rifles, handguns, etc. Plus swords, knives, etc. There is also a car museum in the same building.
I picked up Pietta Colt Paterson revolver and a pound of FFg black powder.
Dixie Gun Works muzzleloading, blackpowder and rare antique gun supplies.
