Winch Control Box in Engine Bay

Anyone with a winch mount the control box in the engine bay? Trying to figure out a location.

Tandem Off-Road sells a bracket that allows you to mount the winch box in front of the radiator. Otherwise I'm sure if you bought one of the many accessory/air or battery brackets you could mount it in those locations. Typically in rear of the driver side or passenger side engine bay areas.

So I know this is a 5th gen section but I was hoping to inspire you. I have a 2nd gen with a 3rd gen engine and my engine bay is pretty crammed. I found room for it. I even mounted a disconnect switch and fuse for the whole winch system. Just bend the stock brackets a bit and used some open holes in the fender well with nuts/bolts.

I ran the wires for the wand plug inside so the port to plug in is on my dash.

So when I go to use the winch I pop my hood, flip the giant red switch and leave the hood not fully locked. That way if something fails (like the horror stories of a “runaway winch” where the solenoid contacts weld and you can’t shut it off, I can flip the switch and kill it.

Makes for a nice clean front end without the clunky control box. Maybe a bit hotter underhood, but it’s not in the rain or wind or snow or whatever.

So get creative, and mock up some brackets out of flat stock or something if needed! There’s gotta room under the hood of a 5th if there’s room under my hood
