Question Ready to move on from KO2's...but to what?

I've got a 2018 SR5 4WD and I put BFG KO2's (E range) on it the day after I bought it. I've now got nearly 45K on the vehicle and it will soon be time to get new tires.

I ran KO2's or BFG MT's on my previous 4WD's with no problems. But with this set of tires, I've frequently experienced steering wheel shimmy/shaking. At times, repeated balancing and road force testing/force matching would not clear it up.

But, it seems that people who run other tires have had similar balance problems on their 4Runner, so perhaps the KO2's are not to blame?

I've never had a flat while four-wheeling with BFG's, which counts for a lot in my mind. OTOH, I never had a flat with the P-rated General Grabbers that came on my first 4WD (an Xterra)! (I upgraded to KO2's after they wore out.) It's hard to plunk down $ for another set of these KO2's after what I went through with this set.

So, I'm open to suggestions. I want to stay with the stock 265/70 R17 size. I don't have a lift or other mods. Most of my 'wheeling is in a desert environment: dry, lots of rocks, sometimes steep terrain. I do drop my tire pressure at times. I do prefer something M+S rated, just in case.

I'm running Yokohama A/T G015 in load range E. Great in the rain, snow, run smooth, and quiet. If I were looking for a more aggressive tread for desert running, I'd try the Yokohama X A/T.

Eh, wait, OP location is Las Vegas. The P-metric AT 3W is great for most places, but not for the desert (three punctures here).

I love my Mickey Thompson ATZ P3. As strong as any MT, surprisingly nice on-road, some actual mud capability over KO2 and also over AT3W.

If you are going to suffer the weight of the LT Wildpeak, just go ahead and get the ATZ P3 with 3-ply sidewall (or the MT Wildpeak).

Also, the heavy ATZ P3 work great with a stiff, offroad oriented suspension while the P-metric AT 3W work great with a road-oriented suspension.

I'm in the desert (90 miles from Vegas)
I've had no issues with my E rated Toyo Open Country A/Ts.
These are not the new version AT3, they are version 1.
These will be replaced with the 3s when the time comes.

I just switched to Toyo AT3’s from KO2’s. Was going to go back to Wildpeaks but my buddy convinced me to go with AT3’s and they handle great in rain and snow. Not to mention their lighter than Wildpeaks too.

+1 for the Toyo AT3's. Their 265/70R17 E load weighs 48 lbs, not much heavier than a C load KO2.
