Quicksand color wrong after repair

Hey all,

2016 Quicksand TRD Pro. Unfortunately did some damage to it at my ranch a bit ago. I took it to a Toyota Collision center for repair. Took 4 weeks, got it back yesterday and they got the color wrong on part of it. Just curious how this happens? You'd think a toyota dealership could match the quicksand color.

Edit: Just for clarification, the bottom part is the new piece with the wrong paint.

Paint is a very tough thing to get exactly right, especially with matching. If it's mixed slightly wrong, it can come out bad. Your paint currently could also have some slight fading that would make it not match exactly to the new paint, but that's not as likely since it's not that old.

They have computers that match the color for them. They either mixed it wrong or your paint has faded since then. Not an excuse, I would take it back.

Fading would make sense if the top part was the new part. The new piece is lighter than the normal color of the car...so I kinda ruled fading out.

I'm about to give them a call. I think they will fix it as they have a lifetime warranty on their work.

I thought fading was all the rage?! Guess you got the best of both worlds, wet quicksand and dry quicksand look. Kidding, sucks they didn't get it right the first time but as others have said, it's a color that has seen a lot of the elements over the years and tough to get exact without full re-spray.

Looks like a bumper cover. Flex additive is used when painting bumpers and on some colors it can change the hue a slight bit. When I worked as a writer at a body shop we would get this ALL the time. Usually when they pointed it out we would look at the other bumper (that we didn't paint) and it didn't match either. But it's pretty far off. I would certainly take it back and have a discussion. It's REALLY hard to get to paint to match exactly when you're doing just panel resprays. That's why body shops blend so much into the surrounding areas.
