Great looking product!

I ended up going with BPF's offering, but it was down to Rago's or BPF's. I think theirs was on sale a couple days longer around Black Friday which made the difference.

In my experience, if you spend a lot of time or dirt roads at higher speeds, you will also need rubber boots to protect the shock shafts from pitting from rocks thrown up from the front wheels.

I have some guards from another company that I don't like as they only attach by the lower shock bolt so they get canted easily. I like that these wrap around the shock mount. I have bent my guards, but not so much that they impacted the shock shaft or the shock body on full compression. While I can see that possibility, I don't think a naked shock is going to survive the same situation without also being severely damaged.

What I would really like to see is some protection for the lower shock bolt itself. Every time I have to remove my rear shocks I have to air hammer that bolt back into a hex(ish) shape in order to remove it, and of course replace it every time. Either a ramped washer around it or an allen or torx panhead bolt would do it.

On the bending topic, you could easily eliminate that possibility by adding a small gusset to this design.

Actually, looking at this picture, from the support to the side edges from the lower mounting area, I don't think a gusset is needed at all.

If you do happen to hit a rock, it looks like the BPF would bend before the Rago. This is just my opinion by looking at them, the Rago has the side stiffening for lack of a better word.

Dust boots can also trap unwanted debris causing further damage to the shaft

His comment on Rago being a copy of BPF was probably based on the first pic in the thread, as installed on a truck. That *does* look similar. Probably a first Gen development model that they shouldn’t have included on their website, it’s confusing. The other pics on the website definitely look beefier.

You can buy OEM shock guards for KING setups but they are plastic and easily break from just normal dirt road driving from what I've seen.

Different tools for different jobs. I've had basic rubber boots ziptied to the rear shocks to prevent rocks and such from pitting the rear shock shaft. However these boots only cover the shaft. These Rago Shock guards cover the lower shock mount. Which is an area that will hit rocks. These lower shock mounts cost $50 each and cost roughly $120 in labor to replace. At least the King Shock ones do.

A point mentioned earlier: no shock shaft would hold up to an impact that would be large enough to bend one of these guards back enough to contact the shaft.

These are also designed with the sides to provide some stiffening of the front of the guard to reduce the ability for it to bend backwards.
