I am done doing things for look alone, waste of money. I added Bilstein 5100’s up front to get rid of nose dive. Set them at .85 which gave me 1” front lift. Stock size ko2’s and I’m all good, it’s paid for I am enjoying it the way it is.

So yes, I am happy with my conservative lift. I actually accomplished something and I’m happy getting rid of the nose dive.

I've been going through this with another vehicle on another forum.
I asked the collective what they suggested for replacement shocks on a 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee. All stock vehicle. We live a few miles from paved roads on somewhat primitive roads (with fancy names).
One respondent couldn't justify 4600's on a $4,000 vehicle.
I can, though for this application I think I'll go with Rancho RS5000's.

I did Kings on my 2019 about 6-8 months ago. The only thing I dislike about the lift is the noise when it's cold, but that's the sacrifice you make for performance. Kings and some others use spherical bushings on some mounts and that transmits more noise to the cabin.

Overall very happy though.

I have been running Icons (stage 2) on a 2019 with kdss for the last two years (2.5inch lift upfront and 1.0 in the rear). I still havent gone offroading yet and have just been driving around town. After 25k, I don't regret it at all. The handling, especially with kdss is much improved.

Bilstein 5100 would have achieved a similar result for a lot less, but if I could do it again, knowing that I would likely not offroad, i'd go with Kings or Icons with reservoirs just for looks.

I bought mine with 35k miles on it. Totally stock but I put some Grabber ATX's on it 2 days after I bought it. Now 2.5 years later I have Eibach springs, 5100's JBA upper arms, Whiteline front LCA bushings, Whiteline panhard bar bushings, .75" cornfeds out back, Rokmen rear lower arms, and urethane bushings in the sway bars. And 285's on Method wheels. It is far from plush but boy does it handle SO much better. And it doesn't bottom out constantly when I take it off the pavement any longer either. It's really about perfect in conjunction with the other stuff I have done.

You don’t need a lift. The 4Runner is plenty capable without screwing around with the lift and level bs.

really it made the kdss better ? did you have to recalibrate it ?

fwiw, I have a 19 TRD ORP w/ KDSS that I bought new. I drove it for 20k stock. added SCS wheels at that point. at 36k, I did a spacer lift and 275/70's. Other than not smacking rocks on my skid plates as much offroad, and the decreased MPG and slightly slower acceleration, I can't tell a difference. the KDSS still works great.

I think I gave you a detailed response the first time around.

And if this is how you feel about the suspension, don't do anything.

If you get 6 spots of bare metal right under your bump stops, you will not need to ask if you need something better.

And don't think in terms of lift, think in terms of suspension characteristics (which may involve some lift but that's not the primary issue).

Some great advice echoing what I would say: if you're happy with it, keep it. Unless you're planning a Moab or Rubicon trip anytime soon I don't see the point outside of aesthetics. I have mods simply for aesthetics.. I guess it just depends on your disposable income.

Per the thread topic: I am extremely happy with my Dobinson's suspension including Dobinson's UCAs. I don't have KDSS, and the handling/control now is SO much better than stock, especially with the UCAs. To me, it was night and day difference. I feel safer driving the vehicle on the highway now, and the off-road capability has helped in some of the places I have explored. My only real gripe is the random clunking/knocking up front when the vehicle is cold and I reverse out of a spot. I've installed new sway bar end links and Durobumps with no change. I've been told that's just life with a modified suspension.. and the very capable install shop I go to have confirmed there are no mechanical issues to blame. Who knows.

You definitely don't need a lift, but it does look better and lets face it looks are a huge part of this. I come from Jeep Wranglers and I wouldn't drive one without a lift. I bought my Pro because I didn't want to modify it, but I knew Eibach was developing some Pro specific springs which is what I did. I probably didn't get much more than 1/2" clearance, but I paid $1500 for springs, install, alignment and tires. That was worth the cost even if it didn't provide much more capability. I'm very happy with the looks and driving characteristics. Now if I was asked if I was truly happy with my lift on my Jeeps then the answer would be no.
