Rear Wheel mud guard - front section near side step

I have been noticing a lot of noise coming from rocks and gravel getting thrown onto the side steps. I plan on keeping the steps for my smaller ones to get in and out of the vehicle. Never had this problem with my 3rd gen (still running like a champ). Anyone else notice this when driving ?
thinking about maybe adding some kind of shield here.

Funny, I noticed this early yesterday morning for the first time. I can’t understand the redundant little mud flap underneath the steps and nothing for the top considering the direction the wheels spin

I have the same issue in muddy terrain. I’ve been thinking about cutting up some plastic or rubber sheeting and rigging some kind of mud flap.

BTW, people have theorized that little short flap thing underneath is some kind of wind deflector for an attempt at increasing MPGs.

I honestly haven't noticed but I will now be keeping an ear out. I figured most of the noise was stuff hitting inside the wheel well.
