I like and did this.

I'm a big fan of Weathertech mats and run them in all of our daily drivers. Fit is spot on and they're nearly indestructible.
I'd also throw in my homelink mirror as one of my most used modifications. It's a little more effort, but I use it nearly every day.

Simple to do, and offers a little bit of added safety for the blind-spot while driving.

Great idea. Do those swap right into the 4Runner housing?[/QUOTE]
They do. I'd get the Suma Performance mirrors or the CarTrimHome knockoffs though. They are convex and do a better job at showing your blindspots than the Rav4 spotter mirrors

Weathertech type floor mats for sure.
LED interior lights.
Add a better horn.
A bigger rear-view mirror.
Those are the basics, no matter what you use it for, and they are not expensive at all.
If you do go off-road, then get better tires.
If you do your own work, spacers can give you a safe, modest lift up front for $100.
I added skids after I dented the factory versions.
A roof rack was a game-changer for me as I camp. A very convenient place to pack a shovel, gas cans, even javelinas after a hunt. Also a place to stow stuff while I sleep in the back.
Wheels are one of the last things you really need to change, but it's a popular choice.
Here is my list in the approximate order I did them:
Tires
Mats
Xenon Depot HIDs
Interior LEDs
Rack
Antman cargo floor
Front suspension spacers (later removed) and air bags
Fiamm horns
Console vault
Constant-on 12v
RCI aluminum skids
Metal oil filter housing
Had exhaust tip moved to side
Morimoto fog lights
TRD grill
Eibach suspension, Icon sway bar drop kit
JBA UCAs
Harrop locker 68025 mi
Light bar
RRW wheels
Tires 71966 mi
BMC
RSG 20° sliders
Duro Bumps all around
Dash and front door speakers
Dual Battery setup
Whiteline LCA bushings (factory were worn)

I think his point was to find a purpose/direction you're going. Doing mods for the sake of mods doesn't make sense. There are "easy, must do mods" everywhere, but whether you want to do them depends on which direction you're taking your rig.

Replace the factory unit with 2 Fiamm freeway fliers. Bolt right up.
Get both, the high and low notes.

I was really lucky when I got mine as it had a bunch of little stuff already installed that make life alot nicer:
Glove box/center console organizer
LED lights inside
Rav4 mirrors (unless they come on premiums. I'm not sure)
OrangeBoxx rear Molle panels
Good floor mats
I added LED headlights and fogs. I'm really happy with it and small changes have made a big difference.

I got my 4 in January this year. So far I bought nfab nerf bar steps, a rear window Raingler net (we're soon to get our first family dog), an Ellis Precision shift knob, some little shit off Amazon like screen protector, console organizer, dash mats. Next up will be a TRD front skid plate, interior LEDs from DiodeDynamics, AVS in-channel side window deflectors and front bugflector.

I feel like others have covered this well, this was my list for daily driving upgrades right at the start.
LED Interior Bulbs
Husky Floor Liner Floor Mats
Rear Cargo Area Liner
Center Console Organizer
Glove Box Organizer
HID Headlights/LED Highbeams
Canvasback Liners for dog hair
Those were the musts from day one for me, I also upgraded all the speakers within a month or 2 of ownership because the paper cone stock speakers are trash

Add a USB dongle behind your rearview mirror to power a dash cam or a gopro (in my case)
Amazon.com: SimpleUSBPort Mirror to Dashcam Power Adapter (Economy 7-pin for 2003-2019 Toyota 4Runner): Car Electronics
For phone mount, mic mount, garmin mount, I use the Scosche magic mount. Love the strong low profile magnets and mounts.
Amazon.com: SCOSCHE MAGDMB MagicMount Universal Magnetic Mount Holder for Mobile Devices In Frustration Free Packaging, Black: Car Electronics
Salex center console organizer AND TRAY other people have mentioned are awesome.

My advice. DRIVE YOUR TRUCK. Do what you enjoy doing with your truck, STOCK. When you come across an issue that is limiting your ability to do what you want with your truck, add a mod that addresses that issue. That's it. Don't add stuff that you don't even know if you will need yet. Don't get mods just to get mods.

Great thread - lots of good tips and links.
What about seat covers? Any good recommendations - god knows all the off roaring, camping, kids and dogs trash stock fabrics.
My Tacoma friend has these;
