What changed in post 2019 4runners with the radio?
What exactly did Toyota change in the 2020+ 4Runner’s radio to where there are no aftermarket harnesses, radios, etc. compatible?
As of right now you can’t put a Halo 9 in anything post 2019 trims. What gives?

I don’t know what Toyota did between 2019 and 2020, but other carmakers have added non-music features, such as weather, trip computers, tpms, etc. so that replacing the radio can even interfere with the car’s diagnostics.
My neighbor had a Mercedes GLS, and putting an aftermarket radio in it would have been impossible. On the Crutchfield website, they don’t even list any changes that can be made.

No idea what you're talking about. I have a complete aftermarket system in my '20. The only things that are not available are the dash kit and a USB adapter. You can modify a Scosche dash kit to work but it's not easy. And you can run a separate USB port. See my full thread:

The long and short is that they went from Entune 2.0 to Entune 3.0; the headunits are equipped with cellular transceivers for automatic updates and the are tied into the SOS system that comes stock on 5th gens. This complicates the wiring and expands the total number of systems tied to the entertainment unit (for example, on pretty much all the Toyotas now with SOS, the microphone input passes through the DCM [Data Communication Module] before making it to the headunit, so an issue with the DCM could cause an issue where you're not heard on phone calls via Bluetooth.)
I imagine the smaller number of patch cables & aftermarket harnesses is more due to that added complexity. But I imagine that the aftermarket will address it going forward.

So you didn't read any of the thread I posted, did you? You really have no idea what you're talking about. The Maestro unit not only fully integrates ALL factory functions into an aftermarket heat unit, it has significantly expanded reporting and customizations. The *only* thing that is lacking is a USB patch cable, as noted above.
Stick to the 4th gen forum, sport.

Who peed in your cereal this morning? Barged in and crapping all over the place. Knowledge is good, but maybe try a bit more tact.

I guess you don't understand either. I gave the OP all the info he needed. Then this guy gives him *wrong* information so I corrected it. This guy is famous for it on the 4th gen forum. Do you have anything useful to add or any direct experience with the OP's questions?

He claims he is. But that makes some of his advice even more disturbing.
Anyway good luck to the OP. You have all the info you need in my link above.

Did you read the original post? The OP asked what changed (he also listed the specific unit he was trying to use), I gave him that information and a brief opinion on why it probably meant why he may have not seen so many plug & play harnesses for the newer units (admittedly I didn't look myself and took the OP's word there), then I followed up with saying that it will probably be resolved rather quickly by the aftermarket.
No where did I state that an aftermarket unit couldn't integrate the functions, nor that there were no (as in none at all) compatible aftermarket parts. So not entirely sure why you're upset since it in no way conflicts with what you wrote and addresses the OP's question.

Is there a reason as to why a new dash kit is needed? Like why you couldn't connect the Pioneer radio you have to the stock dash kit? Is the original dash kit in a 2020 model not a double din size opening?
But yes, I just noticed the Maestro RR2, RT03, and UT03. Looks like it's those things for a Halo 9 and 11, both of which I was looking at. Then "wire wise" you're all set. Then it just comes to the dash kit.
Is the reason as to why Crutchfield has no recommendation for changing anything because of no dash kit and/or no harness on their site (which is a lie because there is) or because of certain electrical issues? Seems like last year I did the chat thing on their website and they said it was because there's no harness. But it seems there is so it's weird they're not carrying it.

Yes, the problem with the 20+ is that neither Metra nor Schosche has the proper dash kit. Per the link I gave way up at the top, there are several things that don't fit. It can be made to work, as I did, but it's not easy. As far as the wiring harness adapters, *everything* is there except for the USB port at the bottom of the center stack. I bypassed that problem by using a separate USB port in a blank spot.
