So I'm assuming you're running an A/F ratio gauge, right? Are you datalogging?

It comes with everything except spark plugs. I had to pick up some NGK 7505s. Not sure why that part was left out, but they are easy enough to find.

datalogging. The AFR you'll have to take with a grain of salt since it's OBDII based and not wideband dedicated sensor.
I popped a tire literally 30 minutes after picking it up, so driving has been super limited today but thus far the AFRs have peaked at 18 and still like to hover at 14.6 . The trip computer has lost it's mind and thinks I'm getting 25mpg, but I'm sure that will sort itself out quickly

Yes, you really need to look into a wideband. I run an Innovate gauge with an LC2 controller on both my GT500 and my ski, which also has great datalogging capabilities. Your idle/cruise AFR's are nearly meaningless - you want to pay attention to WOT numbers. Good luck, it's an interesting project.

Procharger install thread (this will take awhile)

What are you going to do for tuning?
The last time I checked with Procharger, they told me they don’t have tuning support for 19 and up.

I assume you like that setup? I'm looking at getting a wideband setup.

They had a tune for my 19 offroad no problem. We shipped them the stock config and they sent me an hptuner config that we just posted to the truck lickity split.

First tank of gas down

I'm not even gonna post MPG info because my foot is in this thing all the time right now.

Power is wonderful and smooth. It comes on nice and easy, no big burst and it makes a huge difference on hills where I used to hunt for gears. 3k in 4th gear is where it loves to be to really feel the difference, below that it feels close to stock and not like a 4runner with 1000lbs of armor and tires. Get above 3k and the needles move in a hurry to the right.

Temps haven't moved for the most part. The engine runs about 5F hotter but the trans and converter temps haven't budged.

0-60 got fun. I'm in mid 6s now and with the new tune I actually get into the rev limiter if I sit on WOT where it shifted well before that previously.

People stare at me like my truck is going to explode when i pull into a parking space or up to a light. A few car people have smiled after seeing the inter cooler, but most folks have asked what is wrong with my car and one guy suggested I needed a new power steering pump. The whine is really noticeable. It's literally the first thing you hear when the truck approaches, this may not be a sound for everyone.

I road in a magnuson 2015 4r today and overall I would say that the mag is great if you want deep down grunt, but it fades fast and isn't really noticeable at highway speeds. If you spend most of your wheel time in 4-hi I would magnuson all day long. If you can get the revs up a bit though, this procharger feels like it can spit fire.

For in town, highway etc, it's all about your driving style. I drive like an old man. I'm never first off the line, never really in much of a hurry but when I get on the highway I like to get into it a bit more. I did end up backing my pedal commander down to sport 1, it doesn't seem to get along well with the tune and causes very early shifting.

Would I do it again? Based off of a single tank of gas, yeah of course, it's fun! More to come including Dyno runs and videos!

The whine will calm down a bit as it breaks in. You should have heard the old P1SC's with straight cut gears back in the day!

I saw a few videos with the straight cut and was like oh no, we're going helical. Glad I made that choice , no ball bearings in a can sound to go with the whine. I personally love the sound but the looks are pretty fun

Next video with some road time

First full tank on the Procharged 4runner - YouTube

I grabbed a little bit of video to give you some ideas of what it sounds like in different driving conditions. The biggest change is passing power on the highway. I used to have to flog this thing and now going from 60 to 80 happens almost immediately, it's kinda wild actually.

I think if I had that in mine I would keep the 4runner forever. I love it now and having that power added would be like WOOOOO BABY.

I'm looking to get a kit also, I saw in your vid that instead of a blow off valve you have a bypass valve. Was that an option that you chose? I've been talking to a couple different dealers and they said I had the option of upgrading to a better blow off valve. Just curious if you had a choice and why you went with bypass valve instead of blow off. Thanks for posting up all this Info I've been waiting for the longest time for someone to post a review!

So with a procharger, there actually isn't a blowoff valve option. A blowoff pops when you produce too much boost like with a turbo, a bypass valve pops when you suddenly reduce the throttle to keep pressure from damaging the super charger. The kit by default comes with a recirculating type bypass valve that sends extra boost back into the air filter. There is also an open type that will give that satisfying pspspspsps sound. There is no performance difference and I will probably be swapping mine out later on. I went with the closed valve initially thinking the whole system would be quieter and it could be a sleeper, but that's not turning out to be the case

A lot of 'blow offs' have a recirculating option, usually just a hose plumbed back in somewhere in the intake path.

I'm guessing all we have here is a slight difference in the very loose terminology for a blow off valve when it comes to car talk.

Some diverter/blow off changes can have operational benefits, but its most likely that 'upgrade' means louder or sounds cooler. Blowing off to the atmosphere is much louder than recirculating the pressure - note that after market intakes can make the recirculation louder as well.

PROCHARGER WITH TIAL BOV/ INSTALL! SOUNDS INSANE!! - YouTube

A waste gate is used to bleed of excess boost in a turbo setup, blow offs and diverters purge the pressure when the throttle body is closed which can cause problems with the turbine (you've probably heard turbo flutter before, google it)

Procharger actually has some definitions on their website:

ProCharger Bypass Valves | ProCharger

Quote:

BYPASS VALVES ARE NOT WASTE GATE RELIEF VALVES

Contrary to most perceptions a bypass valve is designed to relieve boost/pressure when the throttle blade is closed. Conditions such as idle, during shifts, and backing off throttle during tire slip conditions are very important to have a bypass valve. A bypass valve utilizes a vacuum line port behind the throttle blade and vents when detecting an immediate change in pressure. Bypass valves are different from a wastegate relief valve, which operates as a pressure relief valve and opens or vents excess pressure when a certain pressure is achieved.

Wastegates can also make a noise, some external waste gates on like big single turbo GNs or Supras can be frightening.

It is to my understanding that a waste gate is not needed on a procharger as it's speed is driven by the engine speed
