PSA: How To disable key ignition warning buzzer

This mod will disable the warning buzzer that occurs when your key is in the ignition and your drivers door is open.

This mod is completely non destructive and fully reversible, no cutting.

What you need:

1. Phillips screwdriver
2. 5 minutes

How to:

1. Remove Key, turn steering wheel 90 degrees left to expose Phillip head screw (Pictured)
2. Remove left screw
3. Turn wheel 90 degrees from center to the right and expose the other screw.
4. Remove right screw
5. Separate upper and lower plastic pieces by gently pulling them apart. To fully remove the lower piece you will need to lower the steering wheel adjustment lever.
6. Under the ignition switch on the right side of the column you will see a white 4 pin plug (pictured). Unplug and tuck away.
7. Reassemble plastic column covers and reinstall the 2 Philips head screws.

NOTES:

1.This switch is called the "UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSEMBLY" digging through the toyota wiring diagrams I have found no other use for this switch other than running the buzzer. I may be wrong, only time will tell. I will run this mod for the foreseeable future and try and discover if any other ECM function was tied into it, although I'm 90% confident, you have been warned. If I find any issues or symptoms, if you decide to do this mod and discover anything, or if you know of anything else this switch is tied in to, please let everyone know by posting below.

2.This mod is only for KEYED vehicles, I haven't been through the wiring diagrams for the keyless ignition 4runners, I don't even know if they beep when the receiver is in the car and the door is open or not.

Honestly the most annoying thing ever.....I might do this. @Old Red do you have any knowledge on this plug from your extensive experience with the wiring diagrams and experimentation?

I drove around with it for 2 days and noticed nothing out of the ordinary, although I have also disabled my seat belt chimes.

I'll see what I can find looking into the keyless 4runners, the keyless version will most likely require a wire being cut as there is probably no physical switch.

It may impact those of us with a remote start module.

Should have zero effect on remote start modules. All this "switch" does is go to ground when your key is inserted sending a ground signal to the ECM that sounds the buzzer. It's not connected to the door switch, nor does it deactivate the 3 beeps when starting the car.

Any thoughts on disabling it on keyless ignition models (2020+)?
