What are you planning on using it for? If for a RTT that won't be permanently mounted to your vehicle I highly recommend Frontrunner with their quick release mounts (it is the only way I would own a RTT is with the quick release mounts since ours was always coming on and off). I have had my Frontrunner for over 5 years. The original silicone we used to seal started to weather and leak last year so I ordered new mounting hardware from Frontrunner (just to have clean stuff and do it right), took it off, cleaned it and remounted with new silicone. I am willing to do this once every 5 years for $45. I have the 3/4 as there was no full length option when I purchased, but I likely wouldn't want to drill into my roof anyway. I now am fully invested in the Frontrunner universe as they have a mount and attachment for everything, but I couldn't be happier with the rack and how it has stood up. We have had everything you could imagine on that rack in every type of condition, on and off-road for the past 5 years, including multiple cross-country trips (check my thread in the signature). I would go Frontrunner again in a heartbeat.

Saying that...Sherpa would be my second option...maybe my first if I didn't have every Frontrunner attachment under the sun...including the bottle opener..lol.

Very happy with Sherpa. Looks good, fits my needs and no worries about water intrusion.

Did you ever consider LFD crossbars? You can use your stock rails and probably have enough room for Maxtraxs, RotoPax, Hi Lift, and a double rifle case that you could put snatch straps, tools, and other recovery gear in. You could mount a RTT if you decided to and or a roof top cargo carrier. No leak issues with the stock rails. I went with the wide bars, which the RotoPax mounts fit without an additional plate. Also, you don't have to remove your rails or end caps to install them.

I just ordered an Alpha Foxtrot rack. Somewhat new. Extruded aluminum. Some decent accessories and seem to be adding more regularly. Cheaper than most and free shipping. Bunch of locals run them and like them.

Like the aluminum racks myself due to the steel racks eventually rusting. Not sure which ones do not require any sealant. Definitely Butyl seems to be the way to go as it does not shrink which is followed by water leakage.

UpTop Overland alpha rack is really nice. 4Runner Roof Rack 5G (2010-2020) - Alpha Series | upTOP Overland

Also Greenlane in Canada has a nice aluminum Rack.4Runner Aluminum Full Length Roof Rack System — GREENLANE OFF-ROAD

Hoping to put one of these on this year after Black Friday. Good Luck with your choice....cheers!

I currently run a Prinsu full rack and love the low profile of it but if you’re thinking about an RTT anytime in the future I would go with something more sturdier. My Prinsu worked out great until recently when I added an RTT and although it holds up ok I noticed the load bars would flex causing unwanted noise. Another thing is I don’t like how limited you are with space under the load bars if you ever need to remove the tent.

I’m swapping mine out for a Frontrunner Slim but for aesthetics I’d rate Prinsu towards the top of the list YMMV. This response isn’t to bash the Prinsu rack at all just my personal experience with it. Either way all those you listed seem like you can’t really go wrong. Goodluck

Glad i came across this thread. I have wanted to get a roof rack since i didn't get the overpriced cross bars and it looks like the Sherpa rack is super low profile. Maybe the same height as the one that comes with the 4R.

My garage is low so i can't add any height.

When I was making the same decisions I had the following criteria

1. No drilling required
2. Removable/movable crossbars
3. Could accommodate a Thule and/or Inno low profile roof box (ski/snowboard transport in winter)
4. Could accommodate RTT.
5. 0-3 week lead time at most
6. Wanted full roof coverage not 3/4

I landed on the Prinsu because of this. Best compromise that fit all my criteria. Admittedly I did not know of the sherpa at the time. I considered all the other options

1. Gobi was 18 weeks lead time at my time of decision
2. Frontrunner required drilling for full roof option AND the crossbars weren't movable enough to accommodate my roof boxes for winter
3. SSO was 8-10 weeks lead time (would have gone with this option if lead time was shorter
4. Considered Victory 4x4. Hard call. Ultimately decided against this option due to lack of crossbar location options

If I didn't need to have a roof box in the winter for skiing I'd have gone Victory.

Had a full size LFD, sat too high inside my carport with a rtt. Swapped and sold it to a good friend. Got a Sherpa and sits 4 inches lower with the rtt under the carport. Didn't even need to air down to fit under the carport. No silicone needed for the Sherpa either. Fit and finish is excellent. Customer service is excellent with questions and concerns answered in a timely manner. That earned my business.

I have the skinny LFD bars (probably should have gotten 3 fat and 1 skinny with the fairing) and I'm very happy with them. You could run a smaller RTT no problem, and they are more than enough for folks who don't run a RTT.

I get it if you're after the aesthetics, but I don't think most people actually need a rack.

If you want to use your existing 5th gen roof rails, you can buy aluminum extruded crossbars from TNutz, then these brackets from NiseRack, and put together a sturdy good looking rack system. And it’s not very expensive. Plenty strong for a RTT. Check out the FAQ page for how to order the crossbars.

I do not currently own a roof rack. However, I've been doing my own research on them and I'm 99.9% sold on a Sherpa Crestone rack. No drill. No silicone/butyl. Aluminum. Rustproof. Looks sharp. This thread sold me on them. I don't see any negatives.

I recently got the UpTop Bravo rack. Install was a breeze. Haven't had to load it up with gear yet, but it's done great on hardware store trips and moving bulky box springs so far. Haven't really noticed any increase in wind noise (unloaded). Very happy so far, and they manufacture locally to me, so no shipping which was a bonus.
