Model Year Differences for 5th Gen
Hey all!
I searched around but can’t seem to find what I’m looking for.
I realize that the 5th Gen was facelifted for the 2014 model year. And I realize that the 5th Gen has few differences year to year.
What I can’t find are what are the actual differences in the 5th Gen model years? Which years have which “upgrades”.
Does anyone know? Or have a link somewhere that explains this?
I’m essentially asking because I’m really close to buying one and wouldn’t mind buying let’s say a 2016 over a 2019 if I can save money without losing key features that I might prefer.
Thanks all!

The gauge cluster changed 3 times since 2010.

I believe the toyota safety sense was added in 2020.
in 2019 or 2020, the roof rails came in all black in certain trims..
2021, oem led fog lights are standard too. trd pro and limited gets the bi-led headlights...

I haevn't found such a detailed list anywhere either, and it's almost too specific for Wikipedia.
e.g. the things that I know about, that are deeper than just the marketing trim name changes:
2015 version replaced cluster gauge LED display with simple clock
2016 version slightly upgraded/changed front brake calipers

The biggest difference is 2020 and 2021, the rest are all pretty much are identical and come down to trim level from 2014-2019

The only actual "upgrades" are in the last two years and are overpriced tech. You can easily buy a much better entertainment system or suspension aftermarket and spend less than the ridiculous upcharge on the '19-'21.
For reference, my 2010 TE was $35K OTD, my '18 TRDP $44k OTD...compare that to an MSRP of $54k now and you'll see that there is not $10k worth of upgrades over the '18. It's the same truck as 10 years ago.

I'm glad I waited for the '21, I'm happy to pay the extra $10K not to have the ugly front end the earlier 5th Gens came with.

Good point!!!
2014 TE's (trail editions) are the only year with the blue multi-display gauge.
2012-2013 TE's had orange.
I wish OldRed were still around for his dope upgrade - this was by FAR the most unique upgrade I've done.

You could buy a 2014-2021 and get the same front end...

LOVE this mod. Wasn't easy, or cheap, to source a 2014 trail edition blue accessory display though.

I ended up doing the same thing. But by the time I decided to just buy a new one, dealerships were saying the item was backordered. But I eventually found one.
