Toyota Oil Change Coupon

What happened to the Toyota oil change service special ($39.99 I think) that the dealerships used to offer? I've changed my own for the past 6 months or so but honestly as cheap as it was, it was impossible to change it for cheaper. I've noticed it's been removed from any dealership service specials for at least a few months.

If it's truly discontinued, anyone know the dealership cost for a change on the 5th gen?

The 'change your own' fanatics, I know, I know. Just change it yourself.

I’ve seen 49.99 at one of the local dealers in the Milwaukee area.

Here are the current prices for everything you need for an oil change including genuine Toyota oil from my local discount Toyota parts dealer. Since they are local I just pick them up to avoid shipping.

04152-YZZA5 $3.56
90430-12031 $0.75
00279-0WQTE-01 $4.79 (x7 = $33.53)

Total = $37.84

I would assume the dealer's cost is less and they are probably using some cheaper bulk oil that is not genuine Toyota oil (if you care about that). What kind of shop fees were they charging in addition to the $39.99 price? With a price that low I wouldn't doubt that it was a loss leader and they are hoping to up sell other services to you.

Solid post - I'm quoting this so I can look this up later when I have to do my oil change. Cheers!

This does state "up to 5 quarts", so it might be a little more for a 5th Gen (6.5 quarts). I'm getting oil/filter changes at my dealership for around $65, which is low enough to keep me from crawling under the truck.

I'd say that would be the cutoff for me as well. Just paid ~$45 for Mobil1 and filter at Napa. The only "issue" is knowing if they actually used bulk oil or Toyota oil. However, as long as it's synthetic I'm not too worried about it. Just peace in knowing. Having dealer records is also a plus for future resale value.

Agreed. I wouldn't imagine that a Toyota dealership would use something other than genuine Toyota oil (and filters), but I've never investigated that. It's odd - this is the first vehicle I've ever owned where I haven't done my own oil changes. A little over 60k miles so far (2019 TRDOR). I may get there eventually.

It is 44.95usd here in SF Bay Area.

They use a genuine Toyota filter but use bulk conventional oil and service interval is 5000 miles, not the Toyota recommended 10,000 miles on their own 0w20 synthetic.

If I remember right the up charge to Toyota 0w20 synthetic is +$39.

There is also the crazy upsell to guilt you into changing wiper blades to some no name wipers (not made in Japan Toyota OEM refills). They don’t want to service you with new OEM japan refills.

And the fluid top off service for $20 per 1/2 gallon of windshield washer fluid.

Pass...

I don’t even buy the Toyota OEM filter from the local dealers anymore. They want $15+tax. I can usually get a Costco member discount for 10% off. But I just rather buy from Amazon or an online Toyota dealer in a small town instead of wasting my breath.

I used to buy the TGMO but it got harder to find at a decent price. The place linked above wants $38 to ship 12 bottles. I switched to M1 Extended Protection a few years ago. $24-$28 for 5 qts at WallyWorld.
I’ve told my dealer I would gladly pay $100 for an oil change if I could trust them to do a better job and didn’t strip or break stuff.

I get a jug of Mobil 1 at Walmart for $20-25 on sale, and do it myself. Won't let the stealership touch my vehicle ever again after dumping oil all over my engine bay and brand new $300 battery

For me since I have to actually roll up my sleeves and get my hands dirty I end up splurging and putting in Redline 0W20. I buy them by the case whenever there is a dip in price on Amazon (monitored using camelcamelcamel.com). I then put in a Toyota filter, new drain plug washer. I also lube the driveshafts with Redline grease (yes I understand the yokes and the joints take different grease, but I'm not going to have 2 different grease guns). The 2 dealers I've been to for oil changes have never lubed the driveshafts.

I can usually get the oil change done in 45 mins by myself. I drive the front 2 wheels up onto 2x6s stacked 2 high to get enough clearance to flip the OEM metal bash plate down and then off. Then it's just being careful not to make a mess.

Because making a mess = 1+ hours of cleanup

I realize that my link above may not be feasible for some due to the cost of shipping. Another suggestion would be to ask your local dealer(s) if they will price match. I've had decent luck at various dealers (not just Toyota) just by asking. Even if they won't match often they will reduce the price enough to make it worth it.
