Black Exhaust Tip, yea or nay?
I got a new 4Runner this week and it came with a black out package with TRD wheels and off-road tires. So far so good and I'm happy with it. Not so sure I like the exhaust tip that Gulf States put on it and I'm tempted to remove it but I thought I'd ask here what you guys think. It doesn't really add any horsepower to the 4Runner and I'm not really sure why it's on it to be honest. Thanks in advance.

What don’t you like about it? To me it looks ... like an exhaust tip. I guess the question is do you care enough about exhaust tips to spend more than another 30 seconds of your life ever thinking about it again.
Congrats on the new ride — enjoy it!

I purchased a black exhaust tip when I blacked out my emblems and valances. I have yet to install but it's on the list. Personally, it's just one more small aesthetic/personal touch. If you like the look, keep it. If you want chrome, then replace.

I've been driving 4Runners for 25 years running and it just looks out of place. That's all.

Looks like a useless thing that will just get crushed or torn off by a rock. I agree with you that it looks wrong on this vehicle. I would remove it.
Enjoy your new vehicle!

That's why I've thought about installing a 90 to make mine come out right after the passenger rear tire.

Mine came with the chrome tip but didn't like it and replaced it with the black tip. Clamp looks like crap though, need to remove it and paint the clamp black.

Looks fine. Mine has the black chrome tip but it is a nightshade edition.

Mine added 11.1 HP! Had it dyno’d.
J/K
Personal preference if you keep it or not.
I like mine in my side exhaust configuration.

This is what I would do to my 2018 if/when I get a black tip. Route it out to the side like the current TRD Pro exhaust option. There are some members that have crushed their tailpipe 4wheeling that have the straight rear exit.

Exhaust tips are ugly on angled down tailpipe in my opinion, plus you are diminishing your departure angle with that thing sticking out more. I just sprayed my pipe with flat black exhaust paint and left it the way it is.
