with these prices im truly debating whether or not i should try to privately sell my 2012 TE with 74k and then just get a newer 4runner. i love mine and dont really want to do that, but the market is so ridiculous right now and i have a year/trim that people seem to be after...hmmm..

There are so many people getting into overlanding and off-roading right now, pretty soon we will all be so sick of it we will start roaming empty malls for piece and quiet.

Unfortunately this is true. Outdoor lifestyle is a big thing right now in general. It’s good on the whole, gets people out, but trails are crowded where I live in CO, and not everyone is wheeling, hiking and camping responsibly. Trail damage is a thing.

The 3rd gen situation has gone from bad to worse. Any rust free 3rd gen under 200k miles demands around $16k now. Several for $20+k. I think the Bringatrailer shenanigans set a precedent as these being pseudoclassic vehicles.

I just paid my 2018 off and not having that payment feels good. I have had no issues with mine and would hate to get greedy, trade for the deal to vehicle with issues.

I dunno if I would worry about it too much, the learning curve is extremely high. Not to mention the expense. The amount of research, knowledge and practice required to do it properly is insane. Lifts, tires, recovery gear, radios, how to drive offroad, how the vehicle actually works, how to do trail repairs, etc. etc. Yes you can copy a parts list off instagram and pay a shop to do the work but what happens when these people break something in the middle of nowhere and left staring at a pristine hi-lift jack with no cell service and no spares/fluids. Then read the manual and try the bottle jack to find out it wont work with the lift ha.

People haven't figured out the GX470 = Land Cruiser Prado thing in a lot of places yet, I'd get one of those. Although I'm bombarded with GX470 vids on youtube these days so don't know how long it will last.

I barely drive my Voodoo Blue. Only have 9k miles on it. I'm thinking of stripping all the mods I've put in and just putting it onto a high mileage older 5th gen as a 2nd vehicle and save the 20-30k.

IMO the 4runner is one of the best vehicles ever created, one of the last few body on frame, reliable, go anywhere SUVs. It has a trim level for everyone depending on taste and price point. there's also so many mods to customize your vehicle. they also seem to be becoming more popular as well, even older gens are pricing well in the private sales
is it perfect? definitely not, but man for the money what vehicle offers a better value than the 4 runner? I know many people will compare to jeeps but really the reliability is no where close to the 4runner and if you need to seat 7 people occasionally, a jeep won't work. Not many people can afford a dedicated off-road vehicle in addition to a family hauler daily driver. the 4runner is a great mix of both

That ship has definitely sailed. Look for the hashtag #GXOR on almost any platform and you'll see what I mean.

Truth. People definitely caught on some time ago and the prices reflect that, especially here in Colorado. Older clean-ish LCs are just as bad if not worse.

I just posted this on my Instagram. These 4 Pros are all within the same auto group I work for. Insane pricing!
I’ll post updates on what these end up selling for. They aren’t at my store but still would be cool to see how much they bring

Yeah, I just entered my '19 SR5P with 12,000 miles for the heck of it and was quoted $38,510. Same deal, more than I paid two years ago. Crazy.

Bought my 17 SR5, 20k miles, lift, custom wheels, 285's, two years ago for $32k from a Toyota dealership.
I guess I see things differently. I buy for longevity, not trade in value. Daily driver vehicle to the 4runner I drove for 35 years. I still drive it. My 2 motorcycles are 40 years old. My quad is 33 years old.
