When I went in for an alignment a month ago, the dealer left an offer of 30k on my front seat for my '17 TRDORP w/ 70k. Which is absolutely bonkers.

I have a creepy feeling that something is wrong here.
It's not normal for dealers to offer these inflated prices for used cars.
Especially when they leave offers on your seat after servicing.
May be something we don't know yet about these cars ....

Well, this is definitely great for our resell value. 4 Runners never had an issue in that department. Lol

I just bought a brand new 2021 SR5 Premium and paid roughly $40,000 for it. The exact same dealership I bought it from just put a 2018 TRD Off Road with 30,000 miles on it - in really, really nice shape - on the lot for $38,990. Why didn't I buy the used one to save the depreciating hit? What depreciation hit?
On a closely related note, I bought my 2014 TRD Sport Tacoma for roughly $30,000. I just sold it myself - in really, really nice shape - with 115,000 miles on it for $18,000. Most vehicles lose half their value in 2 -3 years. My Tacoma didn't lose half it's value in 7 years. Would I buy another Toyota? Yea, I think so.

It's all relative to the printing of trillions of dollars in the last couple years. Tthe dollar is worth a lot less than it was just a couple of years ago. My groceries have gone up 25 to 30% in a year. Yes the T4R holds its value, and right now there is a high demand because of the covid shortage, but like others have said, what's it going to cost to get back into a comparable vehicle, unless its a domestic. With the recent shipping delays, the shortage of T4Rs will continue.
If you can sell for a profit and find a hedge? That's a better bet. Gas ain't going down anytime soon, so our resale value will most likely subside in the next year or so.

Went to look at a 2018 Pro in that "neon" blue color, had 35k miles and some of the basic features and dealer was asking $54K. They would not budge on the price - said there is a nation wide shortage of 4Runners so that's why prices are so high - this was in Delaware. Went back home to NJ and bought my 2021 Off Road Premium (preferred the features over the Pro) for $44.958 OTD.

Same in Maryland and Virginia, wanted to get a 2year old with low miles, ended up getting a new 2021 for same price. All the scratches will be mine.... Good luck in your search

I just bought a cheap 100 series Land Cruiser so I can unload my '20 ORP that has 19000 miles on it. Hopefully, I will only take a minimum hit but should find out over the next few days.

Sellers' Market
Spent the last two week trying to find an affordable 4Runner to replace my 97. It's insane. If my 97 didn't have frame rust out, it would probably be selling down here in AL for $8K (SR5, V6, 5sp, 4x4 with eLocker, Tundra brakes, etc.).
Ended up getting a Taco (SR5, V6, 5sp, 4x4 with eLocker, TRD, soon to get Tundra brakes; see the pattern? :- )
