This thread is interesting since every other post in the How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner? thread claims their dealers are giving away ORPs for 10%+ off msrp.

So dealer offered me about $38K for my 2018 4R with almost 40k miles on it.
I bought is for $35k, as I said before, and it's almost paied off...

Just for the sake of a mental experiment, let's say i trade in the 4R and it's fully paied off .... so I have $38k to play with ... what car ?

Everything I see from toyota has all kind of crappy gimmick that I don't want, and new engines/transmissions that we don't know how it's going to hold up in time.. Rav4 has quite a few problems that are not solved yet (battery dies, transmission shifts weird, etc.) ... I like the specs, but unsure about reliability, plus that 8 speed transmission is scratching my brain ... why do you need 8 speeds ??? Really, there is no other vehicle that tops or even equals the 4R right now.

Even if I was to look for a non-offroad vehicle, what is out there that is worth a look ? Been watching car reviews for over a year now, and I am not impressed by anything. Honda and mazda has this disastrous cylinder de-activation technology, Kia has the direct injection and double clutch transmissions, both with documented problems, etc... Really, I am not attracted by anything out there nowadays.

Every time I see a car review, I congratulate myself for buying the 2018 4R, before they added all that toyota safety crap....

A WRX STI is about that price. Or a used S60 Polestar.

I hear you brother, I bought my 4runner precisely because it was one of the most simple yet functional vehicles for my needs. I used to drive a stripped down JK wrangler with vinyl seats, carpet and rear seat removed, six speed manual, manual locks, manual windows, and no cruise control and loved it. I know we are in the minority but it blows my mind how much people expect to be on a new vehicle and then gripe about the price. I paid 18k for that jeep brand new in 2008. I also cross shopped it against a Tacoma trd offroad and decided against it since the Tacoma was a whopping 22,000 and forced me to have power windows and locks! Times have definitely changed.

Used prices are crazy. I just received a Carvana quote to test the waters and it was $43,135 for a 2019 TRD Off Road Premium with 11,152 miles. I wonder if I should sell it now.

Carvana bought my 2019 Tundra Crewmax With 9100 miles for 37758. Which was probably more than I paid for it new two years ago

Im hoping to cash in right now actually. My 2 year old Tacoma with a little over 20k miles vs a new 4R.

Reason I didnt buy a 4R 2 years ago? Push button start. (Yes I know, I know, but my money, my rulez)

Bought an Offroad for like 33k plus tax, already got some dealers offering 35-36k.
But im only finding 6% off MSRP deals on 4Runners now (37-38k for SR, 42k for TRD OR w/KDSS), which is actually more than I was expecting. Just have to sit down and really think about whether its worth buying now and not waiting for something with the back sliding cargo tray to come around. I dont see the car shortages ending this year, hoping to cash out before 4Runners become nonexistant like Tundras

Their offer is now up to 6.2k more than I paid for it.

I just don’t think I could give up my 4runner. It’s the first vehicle I bought new and it just has so much more appeal than new vehicles to me. All that techy shit seems to make cars the equivalent of cell phones these days.

I just ran mine through Carvana out of curiosity. They offered $7k more than what we bought it for a month before COVID hit. That's crazy to me

I wish I had checked Carvana one more time before I sold my 20 ORP this week. For some reason I thought their offer was lower than it was. I ended up going through local Carmax as they offered 500 less than I paid for it new a year and 19000 miles ago and more than $2000 better than the best dealer offer I got.
Carvana, when I checked this morning, was about $1000 better than what I got at Carmax. But the 04 Land Cruiser I bought was only $10000 so I still saved lots of money and I now have a V8.

I happened to check and I'm getting an offer of 49,500 for a Voodoo Blue. I've decided I can't pass that up. Basically just paid tax to drive this thing the last 2 years lol. Gonna de-mod and wait for a high mileage beater one when prices come back down as a 2nd vehicle in the next few years.

With some haggling you can buy two 2011-12s right now with 160k ish miles and have almost $20k left over for mods, parts, new transmissions, engines, whatever. You'll get another 200k miles easy out of them. Dunno how tax works where you are but it's free here when the car hits 14 yrs old.
