Insane used 4Runners dealer prices
I saw today a 2018 4Runner SR5 on sale for $40k.
A 2018 TRD Offroad was on sale for $57k.
I bought my 2018 4Runner for $35k 3 years ago.
That's insane.

I'm a sales manager at a dealer and the auctions are seriously insane right now. I looked at a 2018 ORP with 80k at the local auction and it sold for $32k.
We've noticed a sweet spot with Wranglers. We've had two already that we overpaid a little on and within a couple weeks we got offers for several thousand more than we paid. I shouldn't be able to flip them right back at the auction this quickly, but sure enough it happens to our bewilderment.

Like the housing market in some areas, supply and demand. I guess I should not have traded in my '12 trail with 214k for 12k.

Same thing going on with houses. I doubt it will end well.
I bought a 2011 a couple years ago that was a local trade at the dealership they hadnt listed yet, for under $14k yeeeeaaaah booiiiiii
Too many miles for soccer moms I guess. It's low mileage to me, and highway miles from what I can tell. Engine was oily from a valve cover gasket. Havent seen a deal close to it since then. Was hoping we had entered the sub-15k 5th gen era but guess not.

Supply and debt creation more like. I got cold called today by someone asking if I want to sell my house. Never had that happen before. There will have to be a deflationary collapse it's completely unsustainable. MMT, Modern Monetary Theory is to keep printing money until something breaks. It's completely (and openly/knowingly) detached from reality.

I dont know anything about any of anything...Im an engineer by education and by trade...however
... for the past year, the letters coming to me from local dealers wanting me to trade in my 2014 SR5 have gone UP as well...from $14k, to 16k, to 19k...and this last one for 20K...for the mileage that it has on it...120,000...
if my oldest wasnt just starting as a freshman in college with me footing that tuition, i'd surely trade this thing in, and take that and turn it over to buy a slightly used LX/LC200...
i bought it at an end of the year sale in 2014 for only $28k...

That’s why I’m trading my 2020 AG Pro in on LunaRock Tundra Pro. I barely have to put much out for my tundra. Also my wife and I don’t need 2SUV’s. So I’m going back to a truck.

Seattle is also ridiculously expensive. With that said, if I could get 20k over what I paid for mine in October than I'd probably sell it!

As the old saying goes "it's whatever the market will bear" OR "the worth of something is whatever someone is willing to pay". With that said if someone decides to take todays higher trade in value then something to consider is what you have to pay today to get a similar optioned / newer value Runner or other vehicle. It's all relative. I am probably one of the older guys on the forum so my points of view may be archaic by todays standards. I am recently retired and my wife and I were looking at downsizing. We have been in our house for over 25 years and todays market values in our area are sky high and very tempting, then we looked at what we would need to spend on a downsized home and it was as much or more for a much smaller home than we have today and not nearly as nice and updated as ours. I realize a home purchase may not be an apples to apples comparison to a vehicle purchase but I thought there may be similarities to consider in the overall purchase process. At least a home is not a depreciable asset like a vehicle. If you think used 4Runner prices are insane you should look at used boats ! I looked at a 1994 Ranger in good condition and the asking price was $14,500. The NADA high retail value as optioned is $6,250. Wow.

The prices having me strongly considering selling my Army Green. The issue is replacing it afterwards with something else.

Love my 4Runner though I do, if someone wants to pay me a decent spread over what I gave for it 7 months ago, it is theirs. Heck, I have a Sherpa rack and ExtremeLED lightbar waiting to be installed which I can use to sweeten the deal.
Silver 2020 ORP with <7K miles on it. Now, let the bidding begin.

WOW. Carvana's offer for my 2019 ORP with 29000 miles is 33,437 and that's with the listed accident ($2k, not much damage) and me indicating that it's modded.
I'm not selling though. I just wanted to check; about 6 months ago Carvana's offer was for 22k.
