Upgrade to 2020 from 2015?

I post this about twice a year because I really just can't pull the trigger. I have a 2015 Limited 2wd with 92k - kbb says its worth $30k but obviously that's a pipedream, I think it's more along the lines of $23k. I have been looking for a 2017-2019 GX for a loooong time but the inventory right now is super super low. While I still have not found a GX, I did find a CPO 2020 Limited with 76 miles, yes 76 miles. Basically brand new. It's listed for $43k but I think I might be able to negotiate it to $41-42k. Has anyone done CPO new car rate financing with ToyotaFinancial? Are the rates really the new car rates? I realize there is probably not a lot of difference between a 2015 and a 2020, other than TSSP and carplay. Does anyone have experience with TSSP on long commutes? Is it really that helpful? I can basically get the 2020 for the same payment as my 2015 but I don't know if the updates in the 2020 are worth it. Sidenote, anyone with the black leather, how does it wear? I have sand beige leather right now and it is wears ok, about average.

I'd keep looking for a GX.

Right now the 4runner used values are insane, so you might get more for it than you think. For example, Carvana raised their offer by 12k for my 2019 in the recent weeks compared with like 6-8 months ago. I'm not selling, but was curious how the market was doing.

If you've been looking for a GX for a while, my recommendation is not to settle unless for some reason your '15 isn't doing what it needs for you. The '20 isn't really all that different from what you have, and IMO, it's not worth the financial expense to upgrade from a 2015.

Of the three used car price estimators (KBB, NADA, and Edmonds) KBB seems to be the most realistic. As others have said, used 4Runner prices have gone through the roof so the KBB price seems reasonable.

I agree with most of the others, keep the '15 for now if it serves your purposes.

I personally wouldn’t be in any hurry to upgrade a 6-year-old car, but I know that’s a long time for others. I will say the adaptive cruise control is surprisingly great on my 2021 — it wasn’t something I was even thinking about when I bought it, and it’s turned out to be one of my favorite features.

CarPlay is nice after not having it in my previous car, a 2011 Subaru. But you can just get a new head unit to address that — and with aftermarket you can get wireless CarPlay, which Toyota doesn’t offer.

See what Carmax or Carvana will offer you for your car. I've heard lots of people saying they get near kbb values. Worth a shot.

Due to the Coronavirus there has been an overlanding and off-roading surge. So used 4Runner values have gone up. Not to mention that due to the recent earthquake in Japan, they have low inventory of new.

With that said. The 2021 4Runner has LED headlights throughout the line just FYI.

do you need 4x4, are you looking to increase seating capacity, does your 2015 have any major issues? if not, save your money and don't upgrade. Those are some of the criteria I'd consider upgrading for. your payments may be the same but really it's going to cost you more in the long run, you're buying a more expensive vehicle after all

on the other hand the GX is really nice. I looked at both GX and 7 seater 4runners before I bought the 4runner. To me, the luxury and higher repair bills weren't worth the higher price tag and I liked the looks of the 4 runner better. If you are after luxury, then wait for the GX and don't settle for a new 4runner

the black leather in my wife's RX looks brand new with just under 110K miles on it. I prefer black leather. my 4runner is sand beige and I agree the wear is not as good as black but I would say it still looks excellent after 150K miles. Honestly it depends on how well you take care of your vehicles though. I'd buy a sand beige again, no concerns there

I'm naturally against spending my money on depreciating assets. Maybe if I had more of it I'd have a different viewpoint lol. if your 2015 4runner is doing what it needs to do and doing it well why upgrade? the extra features are nice to have but really do you NEED them?

4WD is probably the biggest variable in there to me.

Personally, I dont know why anyone would buy a 4Runner over almost anything else in the CUV/SUV market if you're not going off-road.

Otherwise I'd replace the headunit and be on par with everything 2019 and older...

CPO with 76 miles? Why? A buyback? I would be very suspicious of that.

I went from a 2011 Limited (2WD) silver w/black interior to a New 2020 Limited (4WD) Nightshade black w/black interior. I sold it with 200k miles to a friend and it is still running strong...I still regret selling her because there wasn’t anything wrong other than high mileage. The black interior held up well on the 2011, so I wanted it again in the new 4Runner. I do like the TSSP, which is the main reason I opted for a 2020 over a CPO 2019. I really like the adaptive cruise control and it has been helpful on highway traveling. I’m having issues with Apple CarPlay freezing up and the front bumper has started to pop out on the passenger side. Toyota has known about the bumper issue because of the clip design, but I never had that issue on the “11. I have definitely noticed a considerable drop in fuel efficiency from 21 MPG In mixed driving to 17 MPG, but that may be likely related to going from a 2WD to a 4WD. Unless TSSP is an absolutely must, I’d opt to upgrade the head unit and wait until the 6th Gen.

Carfax shows that it was listed as a manufacturer vehicle (2 miles) on 12/12/2020 (title issued) and then sold as an auto auction on 2/2/2021 (25 miles) and then sold again at an auto auction on 3/9/20201 (71 miles).

Nothing suspicious at all. I do not think you can legally sell a car with that has a title issued as a new car (or demo). It has to be a used car.

If your going from 2015, you might as well go into the 2021. You get led headlights and fogs. Lol

Yes, the TSS works great especially the adaptive cruise control and the collision avoidance. if you are not paying attention while driving and the car in front of you stops suddenly, it tells you to press the brake and if you don't respond it will stop on its own.
