Recent Build Dates vs actual Delivery Date

Hi guys,

I'm waiting for my first Runner (not first Toyota), and wanted to start a thread for folks who have recently purchased Runners on order, a forum to share their delivery timeline, in hopes of helping those of us "in the dark" on our orders - and when we might be able to expect them.

For example, deposit was made Feb 17th, and we were told delivery would be March 30th - April 5th. Build date was Feb 25, for what it's worth.

That window has passed, and while I know "the deal is real" (I've had the VIN since day 1, and have worked with the sales manager in the past at another Toyota dealership), there is no real timeframe available from here; both the dealer and I are waiting without knowing how far out it might be.

So, when were you all told your delivery would be, versus when you actually got it?

Edit: Car arrived at the dealer on April 13th, and she's perfect. <3

It took just about 3 months from the time my 4Runner was built, until it arrived at the dealer. That was before the virus really became an issue, and slowed everything down.

Going way back to 1984. I ordered a Celica GTS, and the sales guy would CALL me each time my Celica had an update on its location. It left the factory, it's on the boat, it's at the port, it's on the train, etc. I assume at least that much detail is available today. But today is different, so who knows?

I ordered out of state - agreed to buyers order 0n 10/8/20, finally after hounding them down took a deposit on 10/14/20. No build date, no VIN for a long time- until I found my exact build on South east toyota website which was confirmed to be my order. Truck arrived one week before Thanksgiving (around 11/19), picked up right after holiday. I only dealt with the internet sales and my sales person has left after I ordered- so communication was limited. I was told they were able to do a dealer trade for truck already being built.
It took just over a month to get my plates, but they rushed them after someone dropped the ball. Overall a positive experience.

All 4Runners are built in Japan. Thus, it can take some time before it shows up at your dealer. After build, it has to be loaded on a ship, then it has to cross the Pacific, then it is processed at the port of entry in the north west (where accessories and some options are installed), then it is loaded on a truck, and finally arrives at your dealer. Then the dealer has to clean it and do a pre-sale inspection before you can pick it up.

Yep, it can take awhile.

I'm aware. The delivery week Toyota gave has passed at this point. PDI doesn't take more than a couple of hours once it hits the lot. (source: used to work a Toyota dealer)

Order placed a week before you.
Estimated delivery was 3 months.
No updates from Toyota as of today. Still waiting for production date as per dealer.

Were you able to confirm if yours was built?
How were you able to get a vin?

Ordered TRD Off Road January 8, and was told it'd take about 3 months. Got notice of a build date of March 1 with estimated delivery around April 1. Car was delivered to my house on March 29. Note that I'm in Canada if that makes a difference.

Glad yours was built that quickly. I wish there was a way to find out beside checking with the dealer.

Did you get KDSS? I ordered mine with it and sunroof.
I was told KDSS may delay it but if you ordered KDSS then it could be something else.

Yep, KDSS equipped. I don't think there's an option up here to get the OR without it.

I placed a deposit on an Off Road Premium on 3/25, which was order by the dealership on 3/26. I was told 8-10 weeks. This past week, 4/6, I was told it’s scheduled to be built on or by 4/29. No idea what that will mean past that but figured I would add my experience so far.

Recent Build Dates vs actual Delivery Date

I'm in Toronto, Canada, put down a deposit yesterday for a TRD Pro, they said they would see if they could pull a swap or try and get one that hasn't been allocated yet. Otherwise it would be a 2022 and several months, keeping my fingers crossed.

Oh BTW, I'm new and this is my first post!
