Official Ordering Thread- MPD 5th Gen Fiberglass Fenders
Hey guys,
McQueen Prototype Design 3" front fiberglass fenders for the 5th gen 4runner are now complete.
Posting a new ordering thread for additional visibility. Original discussion thread can be found >>here<<.
Final design notes:
- These will fit all 2010+ 5th gen 4Runners.
- Net change is about 3" of additional clearance vs. the stock fenders.
- These solve the two major rub points on OEM fenders: the flares themselves and the lower fender mount.
- Snorkel model: IN PRODUCTION and can be ordered.
- The lower fender mount was left intact, cap was left unblended due to varying slider designs. However, this is easily eliminated as I have done myself.
- Unlike other fiberglass fenders on the market, these are made of hand-laid fiberglass vs. chop. This results in a slightly thicker than factory product, but is still thinner than most fenders. Also is very strong and light.
- All OEM attachment points are intact and clearly indented, taking the guesswork out of fitting the fenders.
- When ordering, you can elect for white gel coat (close to OEM Super White), black gel coat, or sandable black gel coat.
- Pricing is at $600 per pair without snorkels, $650/pair with the snorkels due to the thicker material needed. Both models (with and without snorkel) can be preordered now.
ORDERING
They have secured enough pre-orders to move to production on these. Please order now if you'd like in on the first run of fenders.
Please call McQueen at (310) 327-2337 or contact via email at [email protected]. Once ordering is complete, please PM me to be placed on this list so we can keep track of ordering progress.
Thanks
@ NoOneBetter
for these shots

CURRENT STATUS
10/24/17-FINAL PRODUCTION NOTES/SNORKEL MODEL UPDATE
Have a flight to pick the truck back up this Thursday, the final snorkel molds are also just about done! Some of the people on the ordering list have probably already seen these photos, figured I'd share with everyone else.
Final production notes:
- Fender relocation bracket for bottom mount will be incorporated into final design on both models. Please inquire for this option when placing your order info.
- A-pillar fitment issues have been fixed on both snorkel and non-snorkel models.
- Snorkel model will be in production starting next week.
09/26/17- ORDER MINIMUM SECURED, MOVING TO FINAL PRODUCTION
Looks like we've hit the minimum orders required to move to final production on these. I'll be dropping off the truck again to McQueen next Sunday (10/08) for some final tweaks to the A-pillar gaps and for the snorkel model fittings. We should expect final models to be cranked out by mid-October.
08/30/17- PRE-PRODUCTION TESTING COMPLETED
I had the opportunity to test these out on about 500+ miles of varying terrain in Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado, including high speed dirt and slow rock crawling. I stuffed the wheels several times but didn't have any contact issues with the fenders. I've reported back to McQueen that these are ready for production. The only tweaks are minor fitment issues from the fenders to the A-pillars which will be addressed on the final release.

whats the rise and flare? (yes i see the 3" of clearance note) or is it just more interior clearance with the same ext. dimensions? IE will these be wider to work with LT kits.
they look great.

No rise, interior clearance vs. stock is 3". The exterior dimensions are wider by about 2". They maintained a lot of the factory lines when building these. You can see the widening by the hood and headlight area. They wanted to maintain the factory look because of the lack of a matching fiberglass rear.
I stuffed my wheels several times on my trip last week. Initially I was concerned about the lack of rise, but seeing how my wheels were hitting the inner fender wells, I think you'll find that the inner fender wells are the limiting factor and not the fenders. That's even with me sledgehammering the crap out of the pinch weld, the top of the inner wheel well is what has been hitting. Not a single contact mark with the fenders.
For reference I'm running a King mid-travel setup, 17x9 -38mm wheels, and 305/70 (34x12.5) tires. I see no problems if I were running 35" tires with a less aggressive wheel setup.

Amaze-balls. I need to see how the snorkel integrates first, but I think I may need these in my life.

Not bad, but I really wish they would have went more aggressive to make this an option for someone wanting to run a full width LT kit.... Trying to keep the body lines made it look a bit bloated vs trimmed IMHO.
Maybe they will grow on me.. Price is not bad at all really.
Are the flares integrated.
Can you run a liner of some sort, If not, how does the air box just not become completely full of dust without a snorkel....

I agree that the fenders might not be an option for absolutely everyone. These would fit the bill nicely for those running 34/35s with midtravel and mild LT setups. I'm running a pretty aggressive wheel/tire setup and couldn't get these anywhere close to touching even when I tried. If you read through the original thread I discussed another company willing to do a 6" bulge and 3" rise fender. That really would've been excessive in my current application.
I think appearances are subjective though. I selected these guys solely because they kept a lot of factory designs in their work. The way they designed these flares based on the OEM fenders is a work of art. If I went with the other company they would've deleted the factory lines. Since we don't have a good matching rear option this was by far the best bet for me personally.
Rise is something I was initially concerned about. Unless LT setups have significantly different scrub angles I don't see the lack of rise being an issue. I hit my inner fender wells and not the fenders on full lock. The bulge might need to be decided from person to person as to whether 3" of additional inner clearance is enough to clear.
Flares are integrated. You can always work the fiberglass to throw on a set of bushwackers if you wanted...
Like almost every other fiberglass fender, you won't be able to make the OEM splash guards work. You can either fashion one yourself or go with the snorkel version. The OEM intake duct is so exposed I blew through two air filters on this trip, including an AFE dry filter that collapsed. The nice thing about these is the fact that we can run the ARB snorkel if it all pans out and they get enough orders for production. I don't know of any other company willing to make an aftermarket snorkel work with their fender design. Most of the time you have to make your own.

Thanks, sounds logical. It does look well done. Personally I would like the more aggressive setup, but I can see where this would be better for most.
With LT you can get quite a bit more up travel.... but I don't know where all the clearance issues are yet (especially on a 3.5" kit).
I hope to do SA full width at some point, so would like as much fender clearance as possible.

@ weeeee
are we expecting photos of the production snorkel version as well?
Any idea how the snorkel integrates? Does the additional fender bulge "hug" - or envelope - the snorkel body to any degree? I'm hugely curious about this, I have a snorkel in the mail and I'm really contemplating pulling the trigger on these as well

They are intending to make a recessed pocket for the snorkel, so it will envelope the snorkel by about an inch or so. Originally we talked about integrating a metal backing plate inside of the fiberglass for additional strength, but decided that going with a stronger fiberglass material specific to the snorkel models would be the better option.
The snorkel design won't be started until at least 5 preorders are placed. It doesn't matter if all 5 are for the non-snorkel versions.

Will they make more after the pre orders are filled? Want to jump on for the snorkel version but it's just bad timing for funds.

@ weeeee
Will this be a one time run or will they make more in the future. I am debating on picking these up now and saving them for when i run bigger tires.
Also, do you mind taking some pictures of the inner fender.
