In the USA, all scheduled maintenance is FREE for the first two years at any Toyota dealer. I thought that was true in Canada as well. Thus, let your local Toyota dealer do the service for you for free. They will use the correct oil.

The owners manual specifies you use full synthetic oil. Also, the owners manual says the oil is changed every 10K miles (one year), but only if you use synthetic oil. If you use mineral oil (non-synthetic), then you must change the oil every 5K miles (6 months).

There IS a scheduled maintenance at 5K miles (6 months), but that mainly consists of a tire rotation, not an ail change.

As others have said, see the maintenance section of your owners manual for the details.

The manual calls for it being changed every 10k miles. That’s what I’ve done for 40k miles and all if well. Some people on here like to go overboard and think they need to change it constantly, but it’s not 1995 and I think the engineers know what they’re talking about.

Yo, congratulations on the new Rig, I'd love to see some pics. As for the oil the manual states you can use the following oil weights:

0w20
5w20
5w30
10w30

As for oil brand any off the shelf synthetic will serve you well in these engines. I personally run a 0w30 or a 5w30 with great results; switch to a 30 weight oil on my second oil change and immediately noticed a difference. Oil change interval is really a comfort level with you personally, I change my oil every 5k. I know the oil I use can easily to 10k+ but I enjoy the peace of mind changing it at 5k. And it gives me an opportunity to give the under carriage a good visual inspection. FYI wile your under the rig remember to grease the driveshaft.
Lots of youtube videos showing the oil change and driveshaft procedure.

Just had mine done for the first time yesterday under Toyota Care @ 78xx. Dealership recommended first at 10K but wife's Highlander needed to go in anyway and decided to do both cars back to back while scheduling permitted. I also got tired of pressing the "back arrow" to dismiss the warning which started to show up at 5K.

I usually dump the factory fill before around 1500 miles to get out any machining swarf, broken off burrs or casting flash that may have come loose albeit a very rare occurrence. Due to how infrequently we take road trips and our short commutes I usually change oil around a year or 8500 miles whichever comes first.

Tried to take good care of mine by bringing it to the dealership for oil change at 8000k. Even though I said I wanted to pay for it they turned me away saying it's not the 80's.

Only oil that ILSAC GL5. Any 0W for winter and at list 30 for summer. It is not smart to be cheap on oil. Every 5k a must, better every 3K. If 0W20 desired, use only Toyota, as Exxon mobile mix it for Toyota with huge amount of molybdenium, as for its own used a lot of phosphorus and zinc. A lot info out there.

No need to change until it's at 10000 miles. that's what I did. I used the 0-20.

Despite free oil changes for however long, I won't let the dealership touch any of my Yotas unless its warranty or absolutely necessary.

I've owned 8 Toyota and God knows how many other brands, most with 200,000 + miles on them, all using full synthetic (pick a name brand) and at 8,000 to 10,000 mile oil and filter change frequency including my tow vehicles. Not one of my vehicles ever had an oil-related problem.

Do the first oil change early, ~5,000 miles. Then use genuine Toyota synthetic oil every 10,000mi. Toyota synthetic is better than most, though i have used Mobil 1 for most of my cars till they changed there formula.

Why wouldn't you use Toyota synth oil? Why not keep using what the truck was filled with when you got it?
