wheel rotation

limited full wheel drive,

I read many posts and not sure what is the best way to rotate,
is it back to front.

or is it front crossed to back and back to front

I have rotated my tires using the second option, but now I am noticing that the car is wandering a lot on the highway especially if the road has grooves.
I have the Yokohama Geolander G96 stock tires with 14K on them.

I will definitely check the alignment as well, but I dont recall the car playing too much on the highway before the tire rotation.

It is not pleasant at all driving on the highway.

any one experienced this??

Personally, I've never really been a fan of cross rotating tires although I've been told that when you have a MT tire it should be cross rotated. Not sure how true that is...

More than likely you're due for a alignment and balancing on all 4 tires. Make sure you let them know your vehicle was not pulling prior to the rotation so they are aware. It is good practice to align and balance at least once a year or every 10-20K miles as preventive maintenance.

Cross-rotating can sometimes cause weird handling behavior, and if I recall correctly, manual states to not cross and just rotate front to back.

Alignment check is still a good thing and I'd do it.

Left front to right rear, right rear to right front, right front to left rear , left rear to left front. Fronts criss cross to rears, rears move straight forward.

The Toyota 4Runner Owner's Manual, under Do-It-Yourself Maintenance: Tires specifies that tire rotation should be front to back (keeping tires on the same side).

What @Bossman said.
I’ve been rotating front to back, same side with good results. With a good alignment my tires wear evenly and they rarely need to be balanced.

I used to take them in to the Americas Tire shop for each rotation. They’d rebalance each tire and often goof up one or more, requiring me to make a repeat trip to complain and get another re-balance attempt.

If they’re in balance now I just rotate them myself and leave well enough alone.

From the user manual;

The question is I have 20 tires but I dont want to use the spare. So do I just do front to back?

Yeah just do front to back. There's no harm in not including the spare into the rotation.

As @ahtoxa11 said, front to back. I believe that 20 inch spare rotation was shown because the Limited spare is a matching alloy wheel. The other trims have steel spares.

I saw a post where someone did a cost analysis of buying 5 new tires instead of 4, and doing a 5 wheel rotation pattern. After considering the extended tire mileage of 5 and the replacement costs of 4 vs 5, the total cost was almost the same.

And I think the assumption was that you already had a matching alloy wheel for the spare. If not, there’s another expense against going to 5 wheel rotation. Then if you decide to change tire brands or sizes...

i do 5 tire rotation and replaced my steel rim with the alloy rim and new tpms. it's a 2020 sr5

here's how i do it.
spare go to rear passenger
rear passenger goes to the passenger front
passenger front goes to rear driver
rear driver goes to the front driver
front driver becomes the spare.

My 2011 Limited does not have a matching alloy wheel that can be put into the rotation. Earlier Limited models (2010-2013) had a 20 inch yellow rim.

Does my Limited come w/ a matching spare wheel?

Limited Edition 20" Wheels / Extra Spare

My Owner's Manual shows only front to back (same side) rotation.
