Good point, I didn’t think about that. My new vote would probably be moving up to a GX.

I agree that the SR5 is pretty good off road without KDSS or a rear locker. I have never been stuck in my SR5, but then I may not be as brave as some people.
Small correction but traction control is turned off, ATRAC is available. ATRAC is only available to use in 4Low. If driving in 4 low you want traction control off so that power is evenly distributed. Press the ATRAC button in 4Low and it works similar to the crawl control sensing wheel slip and applying the brakes to the wheels that are slipping redistributing power. The only difference between ATRAC and Crawl control is driver input is necessary... think difference between off-road cruise control (Crawl Control) and no cruise control (ATRAC).

Any reason not to consider a 100 or 200 series LC? If I had to have a 3rd row, didn't want a GX, and had to have a locker, I'd be in a Land Cruiser all day long.
This was the original plan but spending $75k even for a used one still feels excessive to her. I actually think the landcruiser is the best possible solution.

You can't turn on ATRAC in 4low on an SR5 or am I missing something here?

As Cymon mentioned a few posts up, it's the other way around. ATRAC only works in 4LO.

Although Land Cruisers are great, the starting price for a new one is over $85,000! (2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Luxury SUV | The timeless icon.)

Same for nearly as capable off road vehicles like the Land Rovers and Porshe Cayenne.

The landcruiser will hold its value far better than those two examples. It is arguably the most reliable vehicle currently made and has been for many years. It’s also one of the most capable 4x4 SUV’s out of the box. The price is definitely justified if you break it down.

I've said this a thousand times, but it's still the same. Instead of discontinuing the land cruiser in the USA - toyota should have offered it in the same trims as the rest of the world. At $45k as a starting point, it's a solid vehicle at a fair price. The market will not support it at $90k as the only model. We know that because it's being dropped from the USA for poor sales. And it's super inefficient. My guess is that Toyota didn't sell the lower spec models because of the CAFE hit they'd take on all of the sales. If Toyota put even a moderately fuel efficient engine in it and priced it like all other world markets - I think they'd sell a pile of them here.

LC200 GXL trim and v8 4Runner are the two biggest failures to offer in-demand products in Toyota's lineup. Probably the only worse case is the lack of a v8 Tacoma. They'd never be able to keep up with demand for a 4.6L v8 powered Tacoma. They'd have to build another factory.

Keep the 4 Runner.
Buy your wife a used Honda Odyssey from Car max.
Think of it as Happy Anniversary, Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, Happy Valentines day ( you get the picture)
The gift that keeps on giving.
Then you can really Mode the 4R.
