Delete Radio Presets

Dumb Question: How do I delete radio presets?

This is a 2020 4runner Limited with a factory head unit.

I had XM radio, but cancelled it when we got locked down. No reason to pay them for something I don't use.

What happened is I had a bunch of presets on my radio for the XM Radio, that is now unsubscribed. So the only thing I can do is assign them to another station.

Given that that there are only so many stations in my area that I want to listen to I have 5 repeats. Which is just dumb.

I found one post on Toyota Nation - But it really doesn't tell you an answer other than live with it.
How to Delete a pre-set Radio Station Preset? | Toyota Nation Forum

From what I understand is there is no way to delete a preset unless I pull the battery, but I think that's even questionable as it may be in flash vs memory.

Please spare me the answers about
  1. Limiting the scope of the number of presets to 6,12,.... doesn't help if I've got 7 stations.
  2. Resubscribing to XM
  3. Learn to speak Spanish
  4. RTFM - Already done, maybe I missed it so point it out
  5. Buy an aftermarket head unit
  6. Pay the dealer to fix it

Ah to what?

I already have 106.5 in there 6 times.

What happens is I go through the actual list, then have an additional 5 entries that I already have.

This is also relevant to my interests. I put an AM station that I never would have put there though still listen to sometimes just to round out the 6. I wouldn't have even put the two broadcast FM stations there if I wasn't forced to do at least 6. I only really want two XM stations and the unused locally FM station that I use for my FM transmitter for my CD player.

One of the "faults" of all Toyota cars is you cannot delete presets, you can only reassign them to another station. So, just assign the stations you listen to at the top of the list and ignore the others.

Not being in the truck and not having the manual handy right now, I think there is a scan feature that searches out all stations and automatically assigns them to presets. I think that’s what I did when I bought my ‘18.

But like you, there aren’t enough local stations to fill presets. And the three stations play crap I’m not interested in anyway. Which doesn’t matter, because I just play music from my phone via Bluetooth anyway. I already have a subscription to Sirius XM for one receiver (docks in the house and in my Subaru) and am not about to pay another $200 each year for another.

Over the decades I’ve ripped all my old music CDs to an external hard drive on my computer, sync’ed my favorites with my phone. Rock, pop, jazz, Motown, country (1990s back), classic rock and pop. Everything from ABBA to ZZ Top. I peruse the local thrift shops for stuff, rip and sync and re-donate them to the thrift shop. Several hundred hours of music on my phone. Just a tip for alternatives or expand your music choices.

Delete Radio Presets

If you really want to clear your pre-sets you need to delete your personal info. Should be under settings, general, as delete personal information( this will also delete save locations etc)

All Toyota cars come from the factory with presets already assigned to certain stations. This was what I encountered on both my RAV4 and my 4Runner. They cannot be deleted (i.e. unassigned), only reassigned to another station.

Now that he's deceased, how can I reassign Rush Limbaugh?

I'll check my t4r tomorrow, but I know on my lexus I can choose between six presets or twelve presets (maybe even eighteen).
Play with the radio a little bit and you might find you can do the same.

ive never paid over $80 a year for xm. tell them you dont listen to it much anymore and threaten to cancel. the price keeps coming down until the bottom and just under $40 for 6 months.

Believe me, I’ve tried. I keep getting fast talking people I can barely understand who speak so fast I can’t keep up while they try to cram extras and “seal” the deal before I can get “NO!” out of my mouth. I’ve hung up on them numerous times after telling them to cancel. I have only the basic 100 channel package and it’s gone up over the past dozen years to $200. Back in the old days, I had two receivers and paid half price for the second. That went away, though I still have the spare receiver.
