TRD Pro or Venture SE?

I am looking at getting a new 4Runner. Currently I have a dealership willing to sell me the TRD Pro (with accessories) in Lunar Rock for 55k out the door. This is a great deal but sadly no incentives, including the 0% financing. However, I believe I can also get them to do a Venture (with accessories and KDSS) in Nautical Blue for 45k out the door due to incentives and I'll get the 0% financing.

Now the hard part. I know that currently the TRD Pro in Lunar Rock market value is 5-10k above what I'm paying. I'm not sure if that value will last down the line or if it's just a temporary thing. Is that added value worth spending the extra money on the Pro?

I am so torn, someone halp!

If you can swing the higher cost and really like the color I would go with the Pro. I paid a couple thousand over msrp over 2.5 years ago and I am glad I got the Pro. No regrets. I do keep my vehicles for awhile. I had a 2001 supercharged 4x4 4Runner for 17.5 years before getting my 2018 Pro.

Examine the reasons you have for buying a 4Runner in the first place. Personally, I've never bought a vehicle based on what I anticipated it to be worth XX years down the road, or how well it would hold its value. I always bought a vehicle because it's the one I wanted (first), or could afford (second). It seems to me that your decision revolves around whether you like the Pro $10,000 more than you like the Venture.

I would offer this...i learnt a while ago, a vehicle should move you not only as you are driving it, but as you walk up to it while its parked.

Do you get that same feeling looking at that TRD Pro vs the Venture model?
You dont hear guys bragging "yeah, my Venture T4R...blah blah blah" do you...because the TRD Pro IS that kool...this is coming from a 2014 SR5 owner who just made the TRD Pro facia Mod. LOVE the block Toyota letters...

+1 for buying a vehicle for the right reasons. If you can swing it, buy what you desire, not what is being bargained better. in 3 weeks, year, two, three, , do you want to be driving your Venture, see a TRD Pro, and think "aw man, i should have..."? On the other hand, do you need the off-roadyness of the Pro vs how much more it will cost?

Can you park them side by side at the dealer, and just stair at them for 3 min to decide?

Example: my wife just bought a 2020 Lex ES Luxury model. All she knew was she wanted a Lex ES, didnt care the year. while at the dealership, i tried to explain to her the diffs in the 2018 vs the 2020. At first she didnt want to care. But once parked side by side, getting in and out of each, and then standing off and letting me show her the styling changes...BOOM, we are then driving home in the 2020.

Lastly...buy what you want...You ONLY live ONCE!!!!!

Good luck on your purchase...

Here's my take.

Will you leave the vehicle as-is? If yes, buy the PRO.

Will you want to mod with a lift? Get the Venture and spend money on high-end stuff like King/Icon/OME/TC suspension. 10k saved will pay for quality suspension, new tires, sliders and a few other bits and bobs. Will ride as good as the PRO while being more capable.

But if you really like the PRO, then buy what you like and don't worry about the money as much given that you can comfortably afford it. There's nothing wrong with modding a PRO either.

Bottom line is - buy what you are going to be most happy with and don't settle in this case.

Another thing to consider regarding the Venture Edition: You're paying a couple thousand dollar premium over the TRD-ORP for the Yakima basket, Pro wheels, black valances, and blacked out badging. All of those can be had in the aftermarket for probably less than what you would pay for them from Toyota, if you really want them.

If it were me, I'd forget the Venture Edition, and be considering the Pro vs. a TRD-ORP, then what everyone else has already said regarding your personal desire to mod vs. stay stock should be considered. To me, the Venture Edition is just an afterthought raid of the parts bin to cobble something together that looks cool and is high margin, but isn't significantly different than the TRD-OR.

The blacked-out bits on the Venture include the mirrors and spoiler, I think. Maybe a grille treatment, too? Not sure. But add those items to the wheels, valances, basket, and badging, and going aftermarket for all those items is probably a wash. Never mind all the work involved swapping all that stuff out. It depends on whether the OP likes/wants the cosmetic differences of the Venture, or if an ORP would fit his wants, too.

I bought the Pro because I wasn't going to modify it. Then I found out Eibach was making springs specifically for it. So for $1500 for springs, tires, install and alignment, I was about to completely change the look and improve the handling. I now have exactly what the Pro should be like like from the factory. You can change things and make it look like a Pro, but you still know and more importantly KBB knows its not a Pro. I was offered $49K last month and it has 19K miles. Now I know the value is inflated because of COVID, but it will aka ways be the most valued 4R. I have the perfect vehicle for my needs and outside of LED headlights I wouldn't change anything.

I did the same. I had a pair of heavily modified Audis before this. My lifestyle was conducive to having modded cars that required constant attention. Enter our first child and my constant attention became being a parent and the car went to the shop. Bought a Pro with the intention of keeping it stock. Since then I’ve built a set of headlights, installed exhaust and CAI, sliders and skid plates, and just started planning a mild lift. I really enjoy this truck and I’m happy to have more family time to enjoy it instead of isolating in the garage for 1-3 days every other week.

That was my thought. 0% has never applied to TR4...my guess is they will tell him that and spring it on him in the Finance office per usual car salesperson tactics.

Pretty much what I was getting at. The differences between the Venture and ORP are basically cosmetic, so the OP has to ask themselves if cosmetic bits are worth a couple thousand over the same thing without the cosmetic stuff.

I personally just get bent out of shape when an automaker raids the parts bin to make a high-margin piece. It's lazy to me, and takes advantage of people who don't know any better. I digress...

This is the most sensible advice in my mind, as the TRD Off Road plus a few aftermarket changes will be a more unique and capable vehicle than a stock Venture. Unless you really love how Toyota up-fitted the Venture, and plan to never remove or change any of their additions, I would save some cash and grab a TRD Off Road and mod it to your taste.

I only recommend a TRD Pro to people who have zero desire to mod as you're paying retail markup on factory installed mods, which can be added to a stock TRD Off Road for less money than paying dealer markup. Plus, aftermarket shocks, wheels and tires offer so much more choice and customization.

But..... with all that said, my opinion shouldn't impact your own. You be you, buy what makes ya feel good and enjoy the ever living hell out of it!

Good luck with your purchase.

For 10k, you could paint your TRD ORP and add better mods.
