Like to stay below 100K mikes, and a rear locker would be nice, as would be the sliding cargo platform. Also, something with leather or the synth leather seats - we have a dog and the wife does NOT want cloth. I do like the improvements that came in 2014, especially the blue gauges over the orange.

Yes sir feel good about it ! Liked to have found a 12' or 13' trail but , only 1 real bad door ding on rear pass. door . Never could get used to leather ,have covered up every time with seat cover & even on both my 4r have covers ! Cheaper than fixing a dogs claw cut or worse imo . I actually don't like front end & have been looking at switch out with limited front . Buy ya have put 6k since buy & stoked (course spent about nother 5g doing stuff) . Didn't like that 14' didn't come with side mirror puddle lights fixed that thanks to OlRed

Yeah you and everybody else, setting their price filter to 100k miles. The deals are over 100k... and I mean literally starting at 101k. It's a psychological barrier people are scared of repairs, no warranty (you'll still get some type of drive line warranty), scared of financing over 100k, etc. There's tons of them for under $25 if you're willing to ask for undercarriage pics and travel to flyover country. If it has a good service history you shouldn't have to start doing much until 150+k (valve cover gaskets etc.). And half of the stuff you'll do anyway like shocks, bushings, brakes.

And if you're brave enough to go to 150k you'll get sub $20 deals.

Have a '15 Trail with 70K miles, daily driven with zero problems. My recommendations before purchasing a used vehicle is have an certified mechanic perform vehicle point inspection. If there are no service history on fluids or wearable items then have them change out. This vehicle is very reliable and will last years with basic maintenance.

According to the NADA people, going from a 2014 SR5 4x4 to a 2017 SR5 4x4 with the same mileage, the Retail price in my zipcode went from $29,100 to $36,850, a jump in over $7,000 in three years! Did the changes to the Entune system make that much difference (I keep hearing the earlier ones were buggy), or were there other worthy chances made? Is NADA very accurate?

if you have a dog do not get cloth. get a car seat cover as well...

like it or not though, age does play a part in vehicle pricing. to your most recent post, a 2014 is about half as old as a 2017 today. there's simply a greater chance of something wearing out faster or being more fatigued from weather. things like blower fans, AC pump, navigation display dimming/wearing out, power winder motors, etc. etc. and milestone service that has been neglected

as repo mentioned, 100k you will see deals, 150k you will see alot of deals BUT you have to find them to ensure you don't find yourself with mountains of repair work that has been neglected. age simply is a risk factor and people get worried by high mileage and it's understandable why they do.

I scooped a 2012 limited with under 150k miles for about $14K USD, no accidents, ONE owner, lady driven. I chose it over newer models with about 100k or less on them selling for much more $, and invested the rest. reason being is I had every single service record for this vehicle (none of the others I viewed had them), all maintenance was dealer performed at the exact recommended mileage, to a t. serviced at the same Toyota dealer its whole life, even for burnt out lightbulbs. the family was selling it because they needed a bigger third row to accommodate growing and more children and still have trunk space. sure I will need to do some regular maintenance (original xreas and it's still going strong, no body lean in cornering, fingers crossed), but the spark plugs, throttle body/injector cleaning, drive belt and brakes / rotors were just done. new tires all around too. spotless service record nothing other than routine maintenance. If I have to put in $5k in repairs for bigger items that's fine, I know the engine and transmission are solid

Yes I should have probably mentioned you need to thoroughly research its maintenance history and have a checklist of deal killers and negiotiating points and know these trucks well and preferably be able to work on them yourself. I dont know if it would be worth it if youre paying labor for fluid swaps, pcv valve, maf cleaning, prop shaft lubing, etc etc.

I got mine for under $14k too, 2 years ago. But I came armed with complete vin/service history, info of roughly how much various common repairs cost and can inspect it pretty thoroughly myself. The only thing I actually found to negiotiate was an extremely filthy engine (newly traded in that hadnt been listed yet) from a seeping valve cover gasket and spark plug seal which you can fix in one job and I've done before.

Overall I'm extremely impressed with how these 5th gen hold up to time and miles. That front cover seal seems to be the main thing, but you can live with it if it's not dripping oil to the point of being a fire hazard. 4WD actuator would be another. Oh yeah and RUST.

A 2012 trail edition with kdss with 100-150k miles is the best bet IMO. No secondary air pump BS, lever transfer shifter, will be sought after by enthusiasts in years to come for rear locker and kdss.

I'm a huge 4Runner fan, and I can definitely see why the 2014+ models are more expensive. As per auto buyers market the updated front end is definitely more modern-looking, and I personally love the new headlights and taillights. The interior upgrades are also nice, and the larger touch screen is a big improvement.
