New RCI gas tank skid design

Looks like RCI has a new gas tank skid design. Pics from their web site. Anyone install this yet? How do you like it?

Haven't tried it but I have the old one and I can tell you that front lip hangs lower than I want. This is a great change to the design. Let me swap RCI!

I have it but not yet installed, a buddy of mine installed his and it looks like a massive improvement over the old design.

I put mine on last week and I'm very happy with it. I didn't have the "old" design and this is my first set of skid plates, but I think the protection is great.

Can someone describe the difference between the old and new design? Also, how recently was the design change made? Thanks!

the outer edge towards the front driver side is now boxed in. whereas previously, it was not boxed in and it was just a open design (lip). People have reported that with the old design, if you turtle yourself on that lip, it would cave in and dent your gas tank. Some will also point out that the other sides are not boxed in, so it only offers a marginal improvement over the old design.

I liked it enough to where myself and a buddy of mine also purchased the new design.

Also, RCI is good people.

Mr Blah...an interesting choice of word...."turtle"....i get what you mean, but I first think of sailing when you use the word "turtle" which describes turning the boat completely upside down. So if a 4r was "turtle" then it would be on its roof. I would like to formally petition the 4 wheeling community to change the definition of "turtle" to mean upside down (not high center). I think something like "ball dragging" or "nut scraping" is more appropriate.
