Dash Speaker Question - 2019 TRD Pro w/ JBL

I am replacing the stock tweeters w/ 3.5" since one of my tweeters are blown.

I have looked through all of the write ups and still have a question since my wiring seems a bit different (see pictures).

Goes to Tweeter
Yellow = +
Purple = -
Goes to Front Door
Green = +
Black = -

I have a capacitor on the positive lead for the wire that goes to the front door (green).

How should this be wired? Do I cutoff the green wire w/ capacitor since it's jumpered anyway? And cut the black? Not the jumpers.

I taped some spacers together with electric tape since I had to match the elevation to mount it. also got 2 inch mending plates from home depot and bored out the holes a bit.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt...5299/202033910

Used 80 grit sandpaper to grind down the speaker covers and put everything back together

Why not get OEM Audio Plus speakers? (4runner - OEM Audio Plus)

They are plug and play, i.e. no wiring modifications needed.

I have a setup in mind for my 4runner that includes all JL Audio.

Always liked the brand/quality so oemaudio+ never really crossed my mind.

I could have bought the wiring harness from taco tunes and a 3d printed mount, to make it plug and play also but timing played a role...need the highs for work calls.

might change out the 3.5's with tweeters once the components come in.

Talking

I just installed some JBL 329s in the dash and if you look at the connector coming from the amp, it only has 2 wires, one + and one -. The jumper wire you see along with the 2 wires coming out to the speaker has one set for the mid, and one set with an inline capacitor for the tweeter. You need just the 2 for the mid.

I initially installed the capacitor that JBL provided, but the sound was very quiet and it made a popping noise on startup. I removed the capacitor and the volume increased, the pop went away, and no distortion at Max volume (I listen to gangster rap).

I didn’t want to destroy my factory speakers, so I used the Taco Tunes harness (they do not have a JBL specific harness listed for the 4Runmer). 3D printed the brackets (thank you member on this site that posted the STL files!) and reused the factory bolts.

I did this mod, because I have blown the dash speakers 2x under warranty, fried the amp, and blew the subwoofer. This JBL system has done pretty horrible. Now that I am out of warranty (still only 29k miles on it), I have no choice but to upgrade to prevent a gap in music while I drive. So, I am in the process of full upgrade.

I was going to start a new thread but 15 posts is a lot!

Initially I joined the 2 + with the oem capacitor to the speaker but it was quiet as you mentioned. After that I decided to just cap the green wire (+) and us the yellow (+) to the dash speaker ...now dash and door work work fine.

I'm not happy my speakers blew, but am excited about the speakers I'm putting in.

Keep us updated on the progress!

Plug and play harness for JBL system

This harness is listed under older models but looks identical to the adapter on the stock JBL dash speaker harness for my 2019 4R limited and only has two speaker wires, so pure and play? Can anyone confirm, otherwise I might try (or why not?)
