Except he's not an expert.

He said repeatedly that the block for the Single VVT-i 1GR-FE, and the Dual VVT-i 1GR-FE in the 5th gen were the same.

They are not.

Based on that, I don't hold his opinion in any regard. At that point I closed the video, as it was a waste of time.

All he really did was describe the engine and not in any way that actually indicated why the engine is favorable opposed to others. I don’t understand the upvotes.

Thanks for the links, lots of good info.
I wonder if there’s any preventative maintenance that can be done.

I occasionally spray some pb blaster on that part to help keep it from getting itself really locked in there just in case I need to replace that part.

He explained it clearly. It's the same reason why great white sharks stopped evolving millions of years ago. They already climaxed within their operating environment.

We are at 255K on our 2014 SR5. I can explain how. Change fluids schedule and don’t use Toyota OEM fluids. Transmission flush at 125K and need to do another using synthetic transmission fluid. Road force balance the damn tires. Change the OEM shocks for Bilstein 5100s. Spark plugs every 125K miles (overdue now). Raybestos advance technology slotted rotors and their top pads. That’s about it.

No organism 'stops evolving'.

Anyways, white sharks are actually growing larger.

T-rex stopped evolving.

One could argue that humanity is de-evolving.

You're talking about genetic drift which is only a part of evolution. Organisms only evolve (adapt) when they are exposed to environmental stressors outside their baseline "knowledge" but inside their adaptive capacity. Then the organism on the herd level experiments with drift and the useful stuff gets remembered and the useless stuff gets forgotten. Eventually it reaches an adaptive climax and goes on cruise control until there are novel stressors. No different than how brain synapses, ant colonies or fungal mycelium organize. Stuff absolutely stops evolving no different than if you stopped training an AI with novel input. There's a great book about this called Antifragile, which probably applies to how Toyota engineers these. I want a vehicle that adapts to real-world stressors not marketing stressors.
