Rear window issue: goes up an inch then back down, won't go up

So my rear hatch window won't go up. I've read lots of posts about people that have this issue but their window doesn't go up at all. Mine starts going up then goes back down, so that rules out all the obvious solutions I've seen (not a blown fuse as it has power, same thing happens whether from the key or the switch, not related to the rear wiper as far as I can tell....) It seems like it is somehow related to the pinch sensor, i.e. something is blocking the window from going up so it goes back down.

I pulled off the rear panel and removed the metal bracket. The plastic liner was partially loose and some dirt has gotten in there. I can see the cables that raise/lower the window. They had some dirt on them and I cleaned them off a bit with no luck. I can see the motor that raises the window and see it turn then stop and reverse, but it's difficult to see much in just the area that is behind the plastic liner.

Looking for some suggestions on troubleshooting and possible ideas of what may be wrong?

Thanks!
