And so does our 2015 Outback. The issue is not the glass in the Outback, but rather the design of the glass framing and torque loads it puts on the glass.

When researching 4runner reliability and scanning this forum for months prior to buying my wife's 2020 4runner, I never came across anything indicating that 4runner have higher instances of windshield breakage than any other make. This generation 4runner has been around since 2010. If there was a widespread problem, it would be bought often on this forum or a sticky.

Resell value is high.. why not just sell and get off these forums, saving your time and heartache, if you truly feel this way?

No, you're the kind of person who brags about having oem replacement coverage on your windshield, can't be fuffed to request replacement because it would take too much time, but spends far more than the time it would take to fix instead going on about it making spurious claims on a forum where no one agrees and reading legal documents from unresolved court cases regarding a different class and model of vehicle. Is that about right?

mmm let me think about this for a minute,

Times up

No.

I know how important a windshield is and I'm picky. I usually do most things myself because I've been disappointed too many times by knuckleheads 'effn up my stuff.

That being said I will prolong the time between disappointments by keeping my original glass as long as I can because none of the stuff stuck to the windshield will probably work after they (who ever "they" is) scratch up the interior and the exterior when they try to replace the windshield.

You must be hell on cars in general.

We've had our 2020 4runner for 1 year and about 11K miles now. It's been on a handful of road trips too. It has one tiny paint chip in the hood and one in the bumper.

I've found the interior panels surprisingly resilient to scuffs and scratches too. When I saw all the hard plastic interior panels and trim, I figured it would suffer the same fate as my 2012 WRX with a similar plastic interior. I was wrong and I don't quite understand it. With all the kids piling into it for school and my wife throwing a paddle board through the back and jamming it to the side on the rear passenger door panel, there isn't a scuff or scratch to be had except some really light scuffing where my wife kicks the drivers door open.

Same goes for my friend's wife's 4Runner Venture. She carts around dogs all the time (she works at a shelter) and she doesn't cage them. They are free to roam the back seat and cargo area. I installed a set of speakers in it recently and none of the doors or trim had scuffs/scratches from the dogs.

I am not a Toyota fanboy at all, but perhaps you lower your expectations a bit. It is a low $30K (starting) fairly basis body on frame truck/SUV. It's not a Benz. Windshields can crack if they are hit in the right spot and with a sharp rock. Ever seen those glass breaking tools the cops carry? Same concept when it comes to certain rock impacts.

How would you explain the class action by Prius owners about their glass?
Prius glass looks like its at a significantly reduced angle.

The answer would be they are not using glass that has been improperly specked or tested (ie screw up in design) OR they are using lower strength glass to generate revenue.
I don’t know anything about a Prius class action suit.

I've had multiple screens replaced... never once have I had interior damage..

Do they even get inside the car? I've seen it done on my own driveway, and I don't think so.

Can I have what you're smokin'? I love a head-change. ;)

I doubt the certification tests have anything to do with stone chips and cracking. Toyota should have there own in house tests for this and when they saw these windshields being purchased in large quantities as replacements they should have done a redesign for customer satisfaction.

I'm so pissed off because of the fragile paint, fragile windshield and fragile interior trim I'm questioning whether I would buy another Toyota to be truthful. People paying $50k for one of these things... thats crazy. Not worth it.

Seems you’re the one who is pissed, not me. I was simply correcting your fallacies with respect to glass. I also didn’t resort to name-calling.
Also Toyota doesn’t make or spec the glass. You’ll have the same issue regardless of what emblem is on the grill. Recall that earlier someone was praising Pilkington. Well, Pilkington is part of the NSG group, manufacturer of the 4R windshield.

My Pro built February 25 2021 has a windshield made by Lamipane. (Lamipane is Japanese, and Pilkington is UK = both are now NPG subsidiaries)

For the historians - LOF (Libbey Owens Ford) is also part of the NSG Group, though bought by Pilkington and subsequently changed brand identity prior to NSG’s acquisition.
My ‘19 Pro has a true NSG windshield, so it’s better than yours, obviously. You raise another good point though - multiple sources of supply. Which is why the green glass composition has been adopted by all glass manufacturers supplying automotive glass.
