Oh because this is the internet.

I get the whole "FanBoy" thing. I've been through it with Harleys, Hondas, Arctic Cats, Malibu Ski boats, some water skis, some fishing equipment and a some other stuff.

If you think your 4R windshield is great. It's great. Later you might not thing so. Thats been my experience.

Post a GoFundMe page here to cover the deductible to get it fixed. Plenty here would be willing to pay just to shut you up.

I’ve been on many car forums throughout my life and each one has its own crappy windshield thread. Just Google “crappy windshield :insert car;.”

The only thing different about this forum is how exponentially fast this thread is growing in relation to other real car problems.

It’s a testament to how reliable they really are.

Hey guys bump bump

Got one coming… 2021 with 10k miles. Started out the size of a quarter, now one of the lines has grown to about 6”.

Never had a crack in any other windshield grow like this. Definitely craptastic.

Pictures to come.

I put one of them AVS bug deflectors on the new 5th gen 4runner I traded my old 5th gen for.

I don't know if it's helping the windshield or not but for sure it's protecting the front edge of my hood.

I didn't have one on my old 5th Gen and a pickup truck with no mudflaps threw a rock at the windshield and made a dime sized crack.

Now I try not to be behind pickups without mud flaps. I will switch lanes and pass or slow down and follow from way back.

How is anyone surprised that 5G T4R windshields crack easily? Its simple physics. Just LOOK at the thing. The rake is more vertically oriented than many vehicles and the glass is relatively flat. There's nowhere for rocks to deflect!

Same deal with FJs, Wranglers and G-Classes.

I'm coming into this winter with a brand new 4R. They spread pretty much pea gravel in Banff National Park where I'm going to be at least 1x per week. No salt at all. They don't want animals licking the roads. It's pretty much guaranteed that I expect the factory windshield to last a month before I get a good crack across the thing. This isn't any different than my previous '17 Armada and '12 Grand Cherokee. The OEM glass on those were ****ed by spring.

Honestly, I've had better luck with "cheap Chinese" windshields than I've had with OEM. I've at least gotten a couple of years out of them sometimes.
