Anything over about 60 or 65mph and fuel mileage goes to crap. Steady state driving with the cruise control on relatively flat highway below 60 mph and no ac and you can easily pull off 25 mpg, at least per the on-board. Hand calculated could be a bit lower on most vehicles (very few in my experience are accurate within a few tenths of a mpg).

Most of my driving with my '19 ORP is highway and I can occasionally get 24mpg per fill-up per the on-board. Hand calculated on my '19 is typically about 1.5 mpg lower.

I’ve never seen above 20 or even close. On 265’s I was averaging around 16.5. Now on P285’s I’m close to 17. I went to a lighter tire and try to stay around 70mph.

I can't break 17 average here in Morris County. Our gas must be different than that boujie juice that's pumped up in Bergen County

First Quarter Tank vs Last Quarter Tank

My computer also shows much higher mileage for the first quarter tank and then slowly drops 3+ mpg as the trip continues. I've seen 18-20 for the first 50-100 miles and eventually watch it drop down to 15-16 with generally constant speed and consistent roads. Computer seems to be pretty accurate overall, just not for short trips.

My on-board computer is very accurate.
Wanna know how accurate?
This is for 115k miles of mileage tracking. 395 fill-ups.
Average of computer readings (computer reset at every fill-up): 20.91mpg
Average of manually calculated readings: 20.98mpg
Total mileage/total gas: 20.97mpg

The worst differences between manually calculated and the on-board computer has been +1.57mpg and -1.46mpg

Out of 395 fill-ups, only 15 times has the difference between hand calculated and on-board computer has exceeded 1mpg.

Just wondering what kind of driving do you do? Are you on highway, long distance driving? What kind of tires? Any lift? I spent 60 miles a day on the highway and a little bit of city stop and go, I have never broke 17mpg.

No lift. Tires are in my sig. I posted a few weeks ago that I actually averaged slightly better MPGs with my Revo A/T tires than I am now with the street Michelins.
I fully admit that my circumstances allows for very favorable driving conditions.
I live at 4500ft.
For 10 years my daily commute was less than 7 miles r/t on residential streets.
The only other driving during the week is 20-30 miles to the stores which I usually do in the evenings when traffic is lighter.
All other driving is from Hwy road trips, a majority of that is through the Eastern Sierras on Hwy 395 where the speed limit is only 55-65 and I can routinely see 22-23mpg in both directions.
I do a lot of light off-road, about 200-300miles/yr but it’s not a significant hit on my MPGs.

I prefer the road less traveled.

I was rolling south from Mammoth Lakes into Mojave and was running on fumes. Long downhill and no traffic, so I turned my engine off and coasted (Subaru Brat). Saw a coyote out in the sun. He watched me, then chased the car, caught it and bit the door handle. I started and kicked it into gear.

As a biologist, I figured it was rabid!

Sorry for the diversion. Back to regular programming.

Don’t have a 4Runner but a taco with the same engine and with real gas I’ve done it several times. Usually am in the 22-23 range but if I’m out for a cruise it’s not hard to do.

I bought my 4Runner to haul shit and transport a ton of shit from point A to point B and in doing so I am averaging in the very low 14 MPGs pulling a 6x12 ft trailer loaded to 4000+ pounds with the 4Runner cargo capacity with another 500-1000 pounds.

YMMV, I'm happy with the above

Best I ever got was in my off road premium. 600 mile round trip from Rhode Island to Pennsylvania. Pretty much all highway, stayed at 70mph or below. I averaged 22.9. Street tires helped I'm sure. It was summertime, so the summer blend has helped as well.

(Still) averaging 18 MPG just crossed 2500 miles. Think my last update was at 2000.
